I caught a ratsnake ( i think ) today!
So pretty, base color like sweet buttered corn, indigo to near black (
but not ) markings, splotches.
Look kind of like crosses or the state of Texas outlines upside down.

Caught him ( I checked ) in north Austin, Texas on a creek in an old
industrial area.
The owners are renovating an old building right next to the creek and he
turned up in the rafters.

4 feet 9 inches long, and he did bite me.

3 very sharp pin pricks, drew blood.

I've got in him a covered terrarmium with carpet, water, large tree
bark, and a tshirt for hiding.

Very very wild, strikes at shadows, but calms with handleing. This is
minute to minute, so please have patience.

I want him! Where can I post pictures?

What are my chances of taming him?

Thanks, likes

It's probably a Texas rat snake. They are known for being aggressive,
and wild caught snakes rarely make good pets. Wild caught snakes also
tend to have parasites. I'd really suggest you turn him loose. If
you're interested in snakes, join
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Austinherps Not only will find info
about snakes in the area, there are breeders on the group that sell
snakes that will make more suitable pets.

deg (also in north Austin)
