Hello. I do not know anything about pythons so please educate me.
Unfortunately, I currently own an 8ft python. I believe the last owner said
it was a reticulated but I am not certain on the type. The snake was left in
my house by some ex house guests. Due to the circumstances of their
departure (they ripped me off), I don't think they will be back for the
snake.

The snake is now in a 3'x4'x5' cedar chest. There are a few 3/4" holes
drilled in the top and sides of the chest. There is also a purple snake lamp
and 2 pieces of driftwood in the chest. The snake ate 3 small mice 4 days
ago. It has no water and has not had water in about 3 weeks as far as I
know. The weather has been hot, about 80 degrees, cooling to 60s at night.

Please help. Is the snake okay in that chest? Does it need water? More air
holes? Is there somebody in the San Francisco bay area who wants to buy the
snake? How can I identify what type of python it is?

This snake has been abused and needs a better home fast. Any info you can
point me to would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I would recommend getting it out of the cedar box. That right there
will make the snake sick. As the other person said the snake needs
water bad. And you said the snake was in a bad environment, I would
not sell it. It might have a bad temper and will eat/attack anything.
Buy some latex gloves and start caring for it. Being rats are cheap
the only thing that might cost is building a cage (2x4 studs and
hardware 1/4 “ hardware clothe and dip the whole thing in pyrethrum or
parathyroid [to help kill mites]). Also bring it to a university vet
(cheaper) to have it checked out for rot mouth or parasites. (I am
sure the vet will say start feeding fresh dead animals to help try to
tame you new pet). If you really want to make sure the snake lives
will you can email me LOU...@aol.com. I have two albino Burmese
pythons that are very tamed that anyone can play and they will actually
take the food out of my hand without going crazy.

p.s. if you do have a reticulating python. Be warned that they get
bigger than the anaconda. Longest recorded alive snake I know of is
the reticulating python at 37’ in New York.
