Hi:
I have found a new type of pre-washed organic salad at our local
grocery that looks like something Nick and Abbie would love, but
am not sure if all of the ingredients are safe for buns. They
are: baby lettuce leaves (red and green romaine, red and green
oak leaf, lollo rosa, tango), frisee, radicchio, mizuna,
arugula, baby red chard and baby spinach. Is this stuff safe?
Thanks,
David, Laura, Nick and Abbie

Absolutely!! My bunnies *inhale* that mixture when I spend the big
bucks and treat them to it. Lots of good stuff in it.

I don't see any problems in there. :)

As an FYI to all of you potential priceclub members, they sell this in a HUGE
bag at costco/priceclub for less than half, pound for pound than the grocery
store. Kevin and I do a low-carb diet and we eat salad CONSTANTLY--this is the
one food item that we share with the buns. And the nice bun parents that we
are--we always pick out the frisee for Plato--it is his favorite!

Maybe you should check with the House Rabbit Society on some of those items -- I
know some are OK but also know that spinach is not to be given very often
because it is high in oxalates, so they say to give infrequently or not at all
if the rabbit has urinary tract sludge problems (this also applies to kale).
The list I just got from them doesn't mention the oak leaf, lolla rose, tango or
chard so I don't know about those. You could call Nancy at the HRS and ask about
those at (303)469-3240 if you'd like.

Ha! Bet the truth is that you just don't like the bitterness of the frisee!

And yes, I get a one pound bag at Costco for 6 bucks and a rather less fresh
bag at Safeway for 8 or 9 bucks.
