A month or two ago someone posted about the rabbit problem in Redmond,
WA. There's an area near Microsoft and Eddie Bauer that has been a
dumping ground for unwanted rabbits. It turned into a real controversy
when it was decided to develop the area. No one knew what to do about
the 700-1000 rabbits living (and multiplying) there. There was a lot of
politics and blame involved in trying to find a solution, and things
were getting ugly.

Just thought I would let you know that in the Seattle paper tonight,
there was an article that the Redmond Rabbit Coalition has received
enough money to start rescuing the rabbits. The city and county did not
contribute (they're still bickering about the problem), but many of the
local businesses did. The coalition is going to catch the rabbits, treat
them for a liver disease, spay and neuter them, and then release them
into a wildlife sanctuary. They estimate that it will take about 3
months to catch them all, so they will be rescued by winter. What a
relief!
