Dexter suffers from that bunny affliction where his teeth don't line up,
which allows his teeth to grow out of his mouth if not regularly cut.
There has been much discussion about this sort of problem previously but
no one has mentioned the cure I have found. I was talking to Dexter's vet
about having some teeth extracted because I was having to cut them every
three weeks. Dexter doesn't appreciate what's going on when I cut his
teeth, he just knows that he hates being upside down. The vet seemed to
feel that extracting his teeth would be cruel since much of a bunny's
existence is chewing on things (he's a good bun only attacks his
designated toys). I agreed that Dexter would become quite sad and bored
without teeth, especially since he likes playing tug of war with Cheerios
and that would end if he only had gums. The vet suggested putting a rock
in his cage to see if he'd use it to grind his teeth. It's two months
later and though I've never seen him do more with the rock than sniff and
lick it, his teeth have been in great shape, so he must be using it while
I'm out. I just cut them for the first time in two months. I only had to
cut two, not the usual four, and it was more of a trim, than anything too
serious. Also, each set of teeth are at the same length, which in all his
days has never happened before. So, that's the real cure--rocks. Try out
a few different ones on your bun, and always wash them well before.

Hope you all have the same luck I have had,
-Dan
