i am shocked and lost. What appeared to be another GI for Daisy (we
have pain stakenly gotten thru each one) has become now desperate.
She has been eating a bit but no poops. X-rays now 2 masses high in the
tract. undeterminable without surgery. Surgery would be at the vet
college about 3 hrs away. Lower tract to the colon is empty. If a
foreign object, it can be removed and the tract re-joined. One mass
could be an object & the other food she has consumed. Or we could be
dealing with a tumour. From different articles I have read she may not
make it thru surgery or thru recovery We could be looking at 7-8
hundred. She was coasting along fine & then no poops. She is not
dehydrated or lethargic. I'm sorry I do not know alot more as I went
into shock an cried thru most of it. The vet does not sound optimistic &
our only hope may be surgery. I wilol call her tomorrow am with more
questions. Hubby seems to think if we keep working at her the mass will
break He is an optimist probably because I survived a ruptured brain
aneurysm in Jan & he with a 4+ hour heart attack in Feb.I have bad
feelings on this & am totally despaired.I can't bear for her to suffer
-she is not in alot of pain at this but death almost inevtiable. Has
anyone gone or know of any one who has gone thru anything like this? She
is the most unique pet I have ever had & she is always the 1st that I
look for every morning. She starts my day & when in rehab, hubby
brought her up to visit. I bust into tears I had not seen her for weeks
& weeks. I put her on my lap,we wheeled around the bldg. Everyone had to
stop & admire A little bun on a patient's lap wheel chairing about. S he
did not like the pings of the elevator. Ican't live without her now that
I am at home in recovery. I am so confused, scared. Feelings &uggestions
most gratefully needed

Gosh Jean! I can only admire how brave you and your husband must be to have
gone through so much!

If you haven't seen it already, please read this
http://fig.cox.miami.edu/Faculty/Dana/ileus.html - it's very important!

Through painful experience, surgery is the last resort ...poor Adonis :(
If I were you I would get a second opinion, preferably from an expert - a
vet who
knows rabbits - take the X-rays with you (you paid for them). Now Max
suffered
from stasis about 3/4 weeks ago - had to go into hospital for 3 nights. The
vet
used cisapride to get his gut going again - but it wasn't until the second
night that
he started pooing again. After I got him home I had to continue the
cisapride for
another 4/5 days. He seems fine now. All during this my fear was that he was
suffering from an obstruction and I kept mentioning this to the vet. She
hadn't
taken any X-rays, she just pinged his stomach and felt his abdomen. She said
if
it was an obstruction, he wouldn't be here now - I just took her word for
it.

Jean you have to be brave again. Yes you have gone through a lot but the
grace that has brought you through these difficulties can and will help you
again.
There are many good hearts in this newsgroup you need only call on their
kind
thoughts and prayers. You have mine and Maxs'.

Positive thoughts and prayers.

Anthony & Maximus

Oh, Jean!

I do know that one of Shannon's buns survived stomach surgery. It is not
unheard of.

If it is a malignant mass, that can sometimes be detected by blood work,
I believe.

I know it is so hard to know what to do. Is there a way to get a second
opinion?

If the second opinion is also for surgery, I would say go for it.

Thank you for your thoughts & prayers. Ihave read thatrticle & we are still at
letters A & B and continuing on. I will be asking about Cisapride 2morrow.We
haven't given up. This is too suspicious -absolute normalcy one day & then
nothing right at the same time temp soared to record breakin highs here. We do
not have air so of course Daisy slowed down most of the day to a standstill
barely drinking or eating until evening as cooler temp came in. I was lucky to
pick up the little pee going thru (she is paper trained so this can be
monitored. We immediately started orally pushing water &pee results were
noticed. We can p/up the x-rays 2morrow & try to compare them to ones taken at
another clinic 2 yrs ago when she suffered her 1st bad bout and again in hot
temp At that time she was dehydrated & they offered Felaxin (similar to
Petromalt) She received little of this. Massaging &another trip back for more
injected fluid and lots of love and care got her thru.

i would get a second opinion too. it is very important. you would do it
for yourself, right?? she is just as important. i've been told on
several occassions that i would lose my bunnies. i didn't. never give up
the ship and when they say the odds are against you, say HA!! i don't
believe you. that is what i did... snow had a mass that was thought to
be a tumour( she was being spayed and they saw it, her organs were
falling apart at the touch) i took her home and naturally healed her. i
did not lose her to his. the tumour was GONE. always have faith. and get
someone who make you feel great that they know what they are doing. if
they have no faith, how can you?

beth and her cute little fuzzbutts :)

I've had a bun that survived a stomachoperation years ago, after eating my
carpet. It was no picknick and recovery was slow, but full!

lots of luck

Jean I am so sorry about Daisy. I think someone here had a bun who went
through surgery for a blockage and came out just fine. I hope and pray for the
best for you and Daisy.

Jean, my best wishes for all for a full recovery. By the vet college, I
assume you mean the one at USask here in ToonTown?

We live about 3 minutes away from there, and should you come up to
Saskatoon will show you all and any hospitality. I'm in the phone book.

Vibes for Daisy.

Oh Dear Jean,
I just picked up on your post. I didn't see the original. I am so sorry to
hear about Daisy. It sounds like you are getting good vet care there. Hang
in there and we will be praying for you.
