I need to know if betadine is safe for bunnies. If so, which version (I
know the reddish one, with the yellow bottle, one that looks like a soap in
a green bottle and a latter in a red bottle).

This is URGENT!! Please pass to mailing lists.

Thanks

Maria and Gaspar

Uh...

betadine diluted to the colour of weak tea is safe for bunnies. I'm not
sure what brand of betadine you're talking about, so I am not sure which
is which (mine is in a clear bottle with a blue label).

10% providone iodine solution, use it diluted about 1:10.

In my bottle it says that providone iodine solution has 4000 g, doesn't
mention a percentage...

Laura, could you please copy what the label of your betadine says to check
if it is the right one?

Thank you!

In rehabilitating rabbits I have always used betadine. I used the stuff in a
green bottle.

How big is the bottle?

It doesn't give a weight, only a percentage.

I just wanted to mention that 4000 g = 4 kilograms which is about 8.8
pounds. Are you sure those weren't mg? (milligrams)

I bought a new bottle of 125 ml (the other one was too old) and here's what
it says:

Iodopovidiona: 10g (equivalent of 1g of "active iodo")

1 ml of the solution has 0,01g of "active iodo"

What do you say?

TIA

Maria

I've diluted Betadine in these way:

10 ml of Betadine

90 ml of Water

Since it seemed to be too dark I continued to add water until I had a medium
dark tea colour like, or like caramel... or honey...

Is it okay? I'd rather put it more often than to give too much...

TIA

P.S- my mother's a nurse and she said that betadine has the same
"ingredients" and porpotions (sp?) whether it is bought here or in the
USA...

Yeah, that's 10%. You want to dilute it to the colour of weak tea before
you use it. But that's fine to use.
