I work at a large WalMart superstore. Every once in a while a customer
is walking around the store with a huge parrot macaw on their
shoulder. How come the birds don't fly away? Do they undertand and
obey their owners like a dog does? I've even seem people giving them
commands or talking to them. Are they smart birds?

very smart birds as are all parrots. they understand their owners far better
than dogs. our parrot understands *going shopping*, *cooking lunch* and
other phrases. our dog only understands *walkies* and *treat*

Hi, I have cockatoo that does not fly away and will happily stay on my
shoulder, she's like this as she is very bonded to me and loves to snuggle
for cuddles and kisses. Parrots are very much like a 4 year old child they
get very close to the person who looks after them and gives them attention.
My cockatoo did have her wings clipped by a previous owner,it was a very bad
clip as her feathers have never grown back, because of this she isn't able to
fly but she never even attempts this or tries to jump off me.Parrots are
incredibly smart birds. Hope this answers your query.

Liz.
