I want a bird that likes interaction, likes to be out of its cage with
me, likes to engage in activities or games, curious about stuff. Sometimes
I need to study or work on the computer; would like the bird to be calm
enough to let me do it while hanging out with me. Noisiness and talking
are not issues one way or the other, nor is appearance.
Thanks for any insights...
Jim

I've been raising tiels for almost 20 years, and have always found the hens
to be sweeter. Males are much more independent. Although they sometimes
enjoy a good cheek scratch, when they're done, they're DONE. Females are
usually content spending time just hanging out on you for hours if you let
them.
On the down side, the hens are unlikely to talk, although some will. In
normals and many mutations, the adult males are often viewed as prettier
because of the bright yellow or white head.
I don't think you can beat a handfed hen who had time spent with her, not
just a syringe stuck in her face.

What you described is exactly what me FEMALE tiel does....
She is quiet, except when she wants my attention, and she is a
cinnamon tiel, and quite pretty...
