thanks
There are alot of treats you can give your cockatiel. I give my cockatiels
peas, lettuce, spinach, toast, dehydrated fruits, peanuts, watermelon. They
can eat just about anything you eat.
The two things I know of that should be kept away from your tiel because
they are suppose to be poisonous are avolcado and chocolate.
I hope this helps.

I was sat eating some cream crackers the other night and our tiel kept
trying to take a bite, so we gave him a small amount. He really
enjoyed it and i wanted to know what other foods/treats he can have.
Thankyou
Chris

Cockatiels can eat just about anything. Some of the more acceptable foods
are: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, apple, pear, peach, pinapple,
quava, mango, fresh corn and cottage cheese. The things you want to stay
away from are: avocodo, chocolate, ice cream, cake, cookies and high fat
seeds.
Here is a site that has a list of what a cockatiels diet should consist of

I make up a mash for her that you cook from a bag that has pasta and beans and
dried fruit and vegetables and seeds and a ton of other stuff. I put millet on
top of it, because she's wary of new foods.
Then she digs in and when she finally comes up for air, her little beak is
COATED with the stuff!! I have to laugh and laugh when she does that, the
little piggy.
--Peas and Corn (frozen, slightly cooked)
--Pasta, and chopped hardboiled egg. (I put this in a food processor to chop
all of it together)
--Fresh corn cut from the cob, uncooked
--Soaked then cooked bean mixes (make your own, much cheaper than prepared,
use black beans, kidney beans, garbanzos, pintos, limas, just about any
kind. I soak a big batch overnight then freeze. Take out a small amount an
cook for a while. OR cook in larger batches then freeze. Don't use canned
beans, they contain too much salt.
--Cooked carrots
--A mix of any of the above. Also try some toddler babyfoods mixed in. Its
messy, but if they like it, you have the added advantage of an 'oh so cute'
messy bird face.
--Birdie bread. Many recipes can be found on the internet. Its basically
cornbread with veggies and many other goodies. (I will find some recipes
and post sites, if you need)
--Try every kind of raw fresh fruit and veggie you have except the things
that have been listed as BAD.
--Offer as much healthy 'people food as you want. (Except the BAD things)
--Be persistent. If they don't try it the first time keep offering in small
amounts. 'Tiels tend to be very cautious with new foods, but when they find
they like something, will gobble it up.
--Let them watch you eat it. Make lots of exaggerated "yummy" sounds. As
well as cautious, they are quite curious, and if they see you like
something, they will probably want to check it out
--Also try fresh sprouted seed. My birds love them. I got mine from
BlueSky Aviary
If you have ever sprouted beans or seeds for yourself for salads, the
process is very similar. I received directions with my order, very easy to
follow.
Another thing that is helpful for me: I purchased several 'crockery' type
food dishes at a pet store. They are about 2 inches deep and 3 or so inches
in diameter. I always feed them fresh food in these bowls. When they see
me coming with them, they know that there are usually goodies in them and
run over to check out what they are getting today.
----BAD LIST---- Avocado, Chocolate, Apple seeds, Alcohol, Salt, High fat
foods.
Best of luck and have fun with your little guys

<can give him ?

I buy raw sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds at my grocery, in the bulk
section for a special treat. (Sunflower seeds are high fat, so use
moderation. But they *love* them.)
Dehydrated veggies are a *big* hit with my babies. Sometimes I buy
the freeze dried ones at the bird store (they look nicer), but I also
have a dehydrator and I just dehydrate lots of frozen veggies and my
birds *love* them. I take out "wet" vegetables from their cage after
a couple of hours, but the dehydrated ones are great if I'm not going
to be home in time.
Whole wheat bread. Raw carrots. An ear of corn on the bottom of the
cage. (That's cute, you'll swear they haven't touched it until you
look closely and realize that each kernal has been scooped out by a
little beak.) Lima beans! Cooked pasta.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions of food-treats for our
Cockatiel.
I have made a note of the suggestions and will try them a bit at a
time.
Thank-You

If salt is a big deal for tiels, be careful of pizza crust. Lots of salt in
that dough! (at least the commercial stuff)
