Just had three chicks hatch out in the last eight days and want to keep all
three. I do not know, of course, if these are male or female but am trying
to think of some really cute and unusual names. Help please.

I have thought of Luigi, but it would need to be a male; and as of yet, I
cannot tell that.

Thanks.

I have a male, Chirpy and female Cheepcheep. Everyone thought I was a bit
barmy when I named them :-)

I wanted to share my story about our bird's name.
We haven't had our bird for very long. Picking a name is really hard, (when
you have children you have 9 months to decide on a name). I have a son who
is almost 13 years old and trying to pick a name with him was horrible. We
were told our bird is a sand pebble, so I thought Sandy or Pebbles (was told
she is probably a girl). No way with my son, he was stuck on the name Bird.
I had to laugh because when I was a little girl I had a make believe friend
who I named Birdie Birdie. So I joked that if her name was going to be
bird, then I would call her Birdie Birdie. He calls her Bird and I call her
Little Bird, like the song Little Birdie by The Cox family.

I usually pick my names from either:

a. literary sources
b. a song
c. someone famous

I don't give my animals "pet" names. They all have human names.

My ex named one of our cats Ziti.
Another cat was named from the song "Sarah" that was playing on the radio when
she showed up at our door.
I named another cat Spike because he looked like Spike Lee.

Sometimes I pick a name, and the next animal is getting that name and oddly
enough that's worked out pretty well too.

Luigi's cute. You could name the others Dante and Leonardo. Until you find
out if they're female, of course ;)

When we got our first cockatiel and didn't know if it was male or female, we
couldn't decide what to call it.
Our young daughter came to the rescue calling it Teewee. We have since
discovered that the bird is very majestic male, so we now just call him Tee
or King Tee. It suits him.

We have a liking for things Japanese and have named our birds accordingly.
We looked through the dictionary picking out nice souding words or specific
meanings. They haven't been gender specific but have worked out well.
Our cinnamon hen is KOISHII (coy-she) meaning dearest/darling.
Our cock Bourkes Parakeet is KUKI (kooky) meaning wind/air.
Kuki is also an adaptation of Cookie Monster (a la Sesame Street) as that is
what I felt we should have called Koishii once she grew up!!
On the subject of which Elmo , Grover, and Oscar might be good!

I had a cockatiel named Hootie once for "Hootie and the Blowfish" - It was a
great name.

My animals are all names I would NEVER use on a human, Oscar, Festus,
Bartholomew, Ellie Mae Clampet, Betty Lou, Wilma, Gertie, Ebeneezer and
Ethel. Hope no one is offended if they own one of these names....

How about Huey, Dewy, and Lewy? Luigi sounds nice. maybe another could be
Mario! My lutino (is that how you spell it? she's white with some yellow)
cockatiel's name is Doodle. people always say that's kinda weird. when i
wanted to get pet, i thought it would be nice to get two parakeets, and i
would name them doodle and noodle (i was little at the time). when I decided
to get one cockatiel instead, i picked the better of the two names. i like
names that rhyme, cuz it sounds so cute when you say them!

not to worry, melody. uncle festus and aunt gertie both have a wonderful
sense of humor, and i've never heard a mean-spirited word from the mouths of
cousin ethel or cousin ellie mae. dad's gotten used to the ribbing for a
name like oscar, and mom'll always just be plain old betty lou, maybe not
the prettiest mom, or the smartest, but almost always a fair to middlin'
cook. i'm fairly sure that they don't have a computer at the state
hospital, at least not one the patients can get to, so i doubt you'll hear
from my sister wilma. besides, she's on some pretty effective tranquilizers
now, and the outbursts are down to only once or twice a week. we're pretty
sure the unfortunate incident at the symphony was accidental, and we're
hoping the district attorney will agree. and ever since my brother
ebeneezer came out and introduced us all to his close personal friend
bartholomew, he's been too happy to be bothered by the teasing... although
now that i think about it, i wonder just what effect we had on him when we'd
chant "neezer, neezer, he's a teaser!" as children. hmmm....

but anyway, please don't worry about offending. sticks and stones, after
all. :-)
best wishes,
ignatz

I've never had a problem picking out names. But I don't get too hung up
on gender - the birds won't care. I have computers named Charon,
Orpheus, Tantalus, and Hades. The birds are Anyankah and Nimue. I had
a python named Julius Squeezer. I have names for macaws I don't even
own yet. ANYWAY. . . .

For a group of three, you have soooo many choices;
Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod
Yakko, Wakko, and Dot
Heuy, Dewey, and Louie
Rocks, Paper, Scissors
Star, Empire, and Jedi
Moe, Larry, Curley
Earth, Wind, Fire
Eenie, Meenie, and Miney-Moe
Malchior, Balthizar, and (damn, I can never remember the third Wise-man)
Peter, Paul, and Mary
Ear, Nose, Throat
Stop, Look, and Listen
. . . okay, now I'm getting silly. . . .

I used to have a cockatiel named Lucky. When his breeders first saw the chicks
as they hatched, they looked funny, and the family thought they were sick. The
owner didn't want the chicks to suffer, so he was in the backyard killing them
when his wife came running out of the house. She had just that day received an
issue of Birdtalk with an article about how funny looking extremely healthy
cockatiel chicks were. My cockatiel was the only one of that laying to
survive. Hence he was "Lucky".

Hello!

We have a cockatiel called Embo. Firs time my friend saw our light-yellow
cockatiel he said that he looks like a roll of wet toilet paper (yellow).
In Finland we have toiletpaper brand called Embo, so after my frinds visit
it was obvious that our cockatiel got name Embo.

My daughters pair of breeders had babies during the olympic games, so as we
are Australian, she named one, Aussie, aussie, aussie and the other one, oy,
oy, oy, (Australian war cry.)
