I will be getting 5 new female mice on Thursday, I bought 3 books on
mouse care but always willing to have ideas from those of you that have
pet mice. I have rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, cats, and dogs
(even fostering a few baby possums) so I though I'd add a few mice.
Any care tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

well, mice are fairly easy to keep.. very addictive.. (we went from 5 to
around 50 fairly quickly and easily before i had to stop cuz i was running
out of room..)
I keep mine on sterilized potting soil - no chemical fertilizers, then
freeze or bake it to make sure any bugs are dead. they love that, and keeps
odors down, even with the boys... i feed mine a mix of wild bird seed (no
corn) pasta, oats, flax, and assorted other things as i can, gives them some
variety, and they like it.
if you can, tanks are best for housing, make sure they have a good lid.
solid wheels are best, though mesh ones are good too. try to avoid the
slatted ones as some mice occasionally get hurt in them. always make sure
they have penty of water. don't worry about food dishes too much.. most
mice tend to toss everything out and use the bowls for other things.. or
just bury them..which is another good reason to use dirt, seeds will sprout
and give extra treats.. or provide extra bedding material, other then that..
ppoke around in any of the older threads and just keep reading
Provide them with food and water. This is important. They will start
killing each other in about two days without food. Provide them with
toilet paper and paper towel tubes. They love to chew them and crawl
through them as well. Be sure they have a wheel. If there are two on
the wheel, it is possible for one to go all the way over the top, one
mouse's weight holding the wheel in place while the other climbs it.
For entertainment, we have cats that sleep on the lid of the mouse
tank.
