I am wondering if dwarf hamsters will learn to climb vertical tubes? I have
seen mine get over halfway up a few times but they can't seem to get all
the way up. Will this come to them with practice? Or will they never be
able to climb vertical tubes without help?

thanks,

Mine scurry up and down the tubes like little acrobats. It does take
them a bit of practice at first -- sticking some adhesive tape inside
the tubes for traction helps.

My dwarves can get up the smaller diameter tubes (Habitrail?) but not
the larger ones (Hartz Mountain?). I rolled up a piece of corrugated
cardboard and put it in one of the larger tubes so that it fills about
half the space, and my dwarf can "chimney" her way up by squeezing her
body against the cardboard with her feet against the wall of the tube.
Be sure it isn't possible for the beastie to get trapped by dislodging
the cardboard across the tube somehow!

Place fabric sticking plaster (first aid tape) on the inside of the
tubes ... this will help them grip as they climb.
