I'm sorry to say that she may have eaten them. Mother hamsters
destroy their offspring on occasion. It is not something they have
voluntary control over, but part of the species' survival instinct.
The most common reason a mother destroys the litter is stress.
This could mean anything from an environment that is too loud or dirty to a
nutritional deficiency. Also, your hamster may just have been too young to
have babies. When immature hamsters give birth, the chances that they will
behave as proper mothers are not good.
If you touched the babies at any time immediately after birth, the
mother might have destroyed them, as they carried your scent and the mother
would regard these animals as no longer part of the litter.
The best insurance anyone can have that their hamster litter will
survive is a very clean, very peaceful environment and a high-protein diet.
These are not guarantees, but help a lot. I strongly recommend that you
read as much as you can on caring for new hamsters to insure that the
remaining animals survive.
