Air conditioning??

Ok...i have a big problem....and i dont know what to do. I have 2 russian dwarf
hamsters. My house is kinda small, and i keep my hamsters in my room. Well it
is getting near summer, and my room gets very hot in in the summer. I have an
air conditionar in my room. There is no place else in the house that i can put
my hamsters so they dont hibernate. i cant put my hamsters in the living room
cause my grandpa sleeps in there and he will have the air conditionar on. So
what do i do???? I have a cabinet thing that i put my clothes in..it has big
doors on it...maybe i could put them in there and put a blanket over the
cabinet?? i have no clue what to do...i dont want them to die or freeze to
death...if anybody can give me some suggestions I would really appriciate
it...thanks..

I don't think you have to worry about your hams getting too cold. I would be
more worried about them getting too hot. I have never seen my hams hibernate. I
live in Texas and we keep our air on almost year round. Good luck.

Just keep them away from direct drafts. Hamsters actually do better
in slightly colder environments than in slightly warmer. They will not go
into hibernation unless the temperature is below 55 degrees F (12.7 C) for
a sustained period of time. I doubt you keep it that cold or anywhere near.

Heat's a more important factor, but cold a/c may need also watching. Could
be a little more humid the other side of the Gulf, where I don't run
central, but big a 220v wall-thumper. Instant cold in a hurry and lots of
it in line with the cages. Somewhat of a concern, as one of mine has lately
taken to showering with a hanging water bottle. Gets underneath and
continues pushing the bottle up with its snout unit its fur is wet. I hand
towel it dry nowadays, when I can, and replace the wet patches it makes.
What I don't want to hear is sneezing or the likes, so I leave a fan instead
directed their way, turned low and not close, before turning off the a/c
when I go out. Guess she likes the fan well enough, seems so. I found her
soundly sleeping the other evening flat on her back with all four paws
blowing in the breeze. Probably she's just a comfortable mouse. Only I
certainly have not seen a hamster sleep like that before, giving her a bit
of a start to awaken to my concern.

Well...for right now...i really dont have to worry about the air problem. Cause
yesturday, my bedroom floor started to cave in. So i have moved my hamsters and
all my stuff out of my room. The hamsters are now in a room that is alittle
warm, with no air condition. OHH..does the problems ever go away?? Oh
well..well thanks all for replying. i guess i will have to deal with this when
i get my new floor rebuilt. bye bye all

I would put a light towel over the cage - at least 3 out of the four sides just
to be certain of no drafts.
