As Mary from Moden Ferret pointed out, the kibble in the 8 in 1 cans is the
ultra blend select with Raisin juice ferret food. I picked all of these
peices of of the can, and Tristan ate every one out of my hand. He woke me
up at 4 in the morning so he could be hand fed the final peices. In the
morning, I awoke to a big healthy poop. I went out and bought 2 of bags of
the 8 in1 food and the box of Marshalls just in case. At first, he would not
eat either and motioned towards the can. I tried tricking him by taking the
peices out of the can and this did not work. Perhaps the 8 in 1 peices out
of the can of treats smelled better to him, being packed in with dried fruit
and all. Eventually his sister, Aubrey made a pile in the corner with the 8
in 1 and marshalls. After she was done doing this, Tristan ate from the pile
and then took a nap. Aubrey will not eat these and still prefers the Totally
Ferret. According to the bag, I have one of the good batches of totally
ferret and being as Aubrey has been eating it without any side effects, I
will keep giving it to her. She will only eat the marshalls under extreme
circumstances. She is pudgy and healthy as can be. I will keep close watch
on him, and contact the vet tomorrow if necessary. He was incredibly active
and alert today, so it looks like it might be allright. Again, I am taking
nothing for granted and both my vets are easily accesible throughout the
week.

Thank you to all who were so helpful and concerned for my little bear.

I believe, but I may be wrong - you will have to check with another US
citizen - that the 8-in-1 will still not be a good staple diet for Tristan
*because* of the raisin juice in which it is soaked. There may well be too
much sugar in it for him, please check and still get him to the vet as soon
as you can?

i'm glad to hear he's doing better and very glad to hear you're such an interested and observant owner. i don't have an answer for
you...but clearly you're on the right track tricking him and giving the food he'll take. i've had several picky eaters here over
time and it can be tough to get 'em to come 'round - so keep up the good work!

Rich - I have been reliably informed by SistaHelen (a Lady with <holds paws
as wide apart as possible> *this* much Ferret knowledge) that ...

"It's not "soaked" in raisin juice, really. The total amount of sugar in
8-in-1
Ultimate is about the same as in any other ferret kibble. The
lesser-quality
8-in-1 products have more sugar, but Ultimate is good.

Some people do put it down because the ingredients list raisin juice. But
the
quality and quantity of sugar is not different from others...just the
source."

So there you go. I may be All-Powerful, but a Ferret dietician I am not!
Well done for getting Tristan to eat again, will you keep us updated on Him,
please?

Your humbled,
Lucifer.

Well if he woke you up to be "hand fed", lol, then that's definitely a good
sign. If he wasn't doing well, he'd be lethargic. So happy to hear he's
doing better !!!

Hi -
I just want to point out that there's 8 in 1 Ultra Blend (with raisin juice)
and 8 in 1 Ultimate. The Ultimate is the star-shaped one & it is actually a bit
different from the Ultra Blend (more protein & fat + uses rice instead of
corn). I think the Ultra Blend is fine -- especially if the ferret won't eat
anything else. We've switched to the Ultimate, but our guys lived quite well
with the Ultra Blend in the mix.

The important thing is that Tristan is eating! Yay!

O Most beneficent fuzzy one,

I believe there is a difference between the nutritional values in 8-in-1
Ultimate and the 8-in-1 Ultra-blend, as well as in the ingredient list.
http://www.ferretstore.com/ferfoodcomch.html

Now that Tristan is eating again, his servant Rich may wish to begin
transitioning him to a blend of healthy foods, using the now favored
Ultra-blend as a stepping stone to kibbley goodness.

Thank you all..He is still eating, mostly hand fed but that's good enough
for me..I've been able to spend the entire weekend with him and I think this
helped alot. He is also eating the Marshall food I bought..as stinky as it
is, Most ferrets I've encountered love it. Maybe it is the fish smell. He
has just settled down to go to sleep, which is great relief to me. Keeping a
bowl of water out helped too. He never stopped drinking, but he loves the
bowl and takes a sip quite often.

Actually, your follow-up research through Helen was very helpful! Here's a
chicken-flavored Pounce and a Cheweasel, Sweetie. (I'd give more, but being
a natural blonde...)

Thank you, kind lady.

<wide eyes> Wow! I do not believe that I had a Pounce, what a privilege!

I think you be teasing me, Lady! I feel I am allowed to make blonde jokes,
from being a blonde from birth (now having progressed to the heights of
Chemical Colour) and from reverting to my blonde roots (actual and
metaphorical) on occasion.

Blondes do have most fun, I'm certain of it!

I like this, but on another hand, it reminds me of something my Father
Mustelid used to say:
"As one closes, I find another one shuts".

Many kind regards,
Lucifer.
