I was wondering if any of y'all have used the Totally Ferret baby food,
their treats or the Ferret Store treats and if so, did your babies like
them?

Just trying to find some other things that I can give the guys.

Blessings,

Margie

We use soft dog treats, Canine Carry out in particular. We use Chix
flavored treats and break them into small pieces. As always we use
olive oil and nutrical.

Hey Hey Helen!

Have a multitude of treats available...Chew Weasels, Chicken Sticks, 8-1
Ferret bites, Ferret Store chicken treats, EVERYTHING!!! (HEH), to offer
while bean is a kit..so he doesn't imprint on just a few.

With many to keep is treat taste active, you will be able to teach Bean many
more tricks and even key them to different behavioral modifications...as he
smells a certain treat, he will go into that trick's function.....

I am doing that with Tums..and she will eat just about any treat except for
Ferretone...she absolutely hates the stuff...she shakes her head and goes
into a tumbling frenzy it I so much as put a wet finger on her nose. But
she loves everything else....!

It is good to keep trying new things while the Fuzzy is young. I failed
to do that, and now have fussy Fuzzys. Seems like it is a little late to
get them harness trained, they panic. But am working on them free
running, and we can take walks around the inside of my apartment
building, and they stay very close to me. When they think they are too
far away, they come running. Don't know where we are going with this yet....

Daisy and Cinnamon had lost interest in CheWeasels so I had not given
them any for a while. I found I had one so hung it in their cage. Daisy
checked it out, turned up her nose, and walked away. She's the picky
one. Cinnamon has not found it yet.

I just took Pics of their new 2nd story to their cage. Now a Condo with
tube access to the 2nd floor.

Pics and story soon.....

Frank, Daisy, Cinnamon.

Personally I wouldn't hang a treat or a toy in their cage (only hammocks).
I'm a worry wart though. I don't like the idea of them possibly getting
tangled up and stuck or worse hanged. :(

Oooh, try the foamy fries with him. :) George was the only one of ours
that actually loved them, but it sure was a blast to watch him eat them. :)

I use a piece of small bare Copper wire but try to fold the cut ends in
so the Fuzzy does not get hurt on them. Then it can be hung on the cage
at a desirable height.

OK. What are foamy fries?

Cannot say I have ever seen them in the Ferret section of true Pet Stores.

That is why I use wire. It is stiff enough that there is no way they can
get tangled up in it. Especially when it is only about 2" long.
Just movable enough they can tug on it.

Foamy Fries are made by the same company that makes Cheweasels - Hyper-Fur
Pet Products, I believe is the full name. Do an online search & you'll find
them.

I think my 8 week old female ferret already imprinted on only ferret
food. She won't eat any treats at all. She'll eat almost any kind of
animal "food though' Cat food, ferret food, doesn't matter which brand
either. I feed her a mix of a couple different kinds to give her some
variety. I wish she'd eat some other stuff I could use as "treats"
though.

Yep, made by Hyper-Fur (http://www.hyperfur.com). Kolby prefers the N-Bone
chicken chews though. It's a good distraction for him while I clean the
litterbox. And Stormy is the only ferret I've had that has ever liked the
Marshalls Bandits treats. Personally they remind me of cheese bait. ;-)

LOL. Bean sounds like a good ferret. I'm too scared to let mine
venture under the stove. They love to try and go under the fridge and
in the dishwasher. I need to ferret proof my kitchen or block it off
somehow so they can play around in my living room.

I'm using a little bit of Royal Canin Baby Cat food in with theirs.
I'm feeding them 50% Marshals and then a mixture of ZuPreem, Sheppard &
Greene and some of that baby cat food. It's all about the same as far
as I can tell from the ingredient list. Every single thing i looked at
is mostly Chicken Meal, Chicken liver, then gorn cluten meal and rice
flour. Even the Marshals. It's different in that they added some
herring by-product meal to the mixture. The Baby Cat food is 25% fat,
but I only got that because the store was out of the kitten food which
was 20% fat and almost identical to the other ferret food(s) I have.

I looked at those N-Bone chicken chews I believe, and discovered they
were basically compressed soy protein. I decided against feeding my
little guys them it for that reason. They seem to like the rawhide
chews though.

Rawhide chews for ferrets is a BIG no-no. They can tear off chunks and get
serious and oft times fatal intestinal blockages. Give on things that
dissolve readily. N-Bones, (Called Chicken Sticks here and elsewhere!)
although made of soy, are a good treat for ferrets...their teeth get cleaned
as they chew and many ferrets think 'chicken sticks' are a great treat.

I cut mine up into 3/4-1 inches pieces and give them as rewards...never as a
treat. (I train all my ferrets to do behavioral modifications on command.
I believe an active brain in a ferret leads to longevity.) SistaHelen has
seen one of the 'tricks' one of my ferrets (now departed) did..it was his
'Big kiss and Little kiss'.....If asked to do the Big Kiss, he would take my
nose in his mouth.....a Little kiss was the typical ferret kiss on the lips
or cheek or what ever was offered. That was Snorkle.

I use ferretbites and Ferret Store treats as 'just because' treats.

We moved all our appliances (refridgerator, freezer, washer, dryer) to another
room with a door which is normally shut, and we make SURE it's shut when
they're out. The stove they can't get under just because of the way it's
built. I did have to pull the baseboards out of all the cabinets and put in
extensions so they can't go over the baseboard and get under the counter.
There's plumbing going through from the sink and where the dish washer was and
I wasn't going to take the chance that one of the openings might be big enough
for the pipe AND a ferret.

We did leave the gap under the hutch open for them, though. The hutch is
movable, and there's no openings hidden by it. They like to zoom under there
while playing.

There is no particular reason why they wouldn't be able to do that with
those compressed vegetable sticks. See the posts about the lawsuit
against the maker of Greenies. Also, having had dogs in the past I
can say that they even have a huge amount of trouble chewing through
those twisted rawhide chews. I can't imagine it's particularly easy
for ferrets either. As always, supervision is best :)

P.S. I wish I could teach my ferrets tricks, I'm too impatient I
suppose. I can't even get them to go in the litter box.
