any animal, fantasy, etc.. theme. Scratch art is done on a piece of thick
board that is already coated with black and then she uses a scratching tool
that peels off the black little by little right where she wants it and
underneath it either reveals a gold, white, or silver depending on which
kind of board she uses. She scratches off more in places to lighten and less
in places to keep dark. It takes her quite a while to get it done the way
she likes it, but they always turn our wonderful! I am going to be adding a
variety of pictures on my site soon of the one's she has already completed.

overrun by spammers - some even on topic. Eventually, all content leaves the
group and it becomes a massive advertising forum.

The ferret pics you do are wonderful...but with people skills like

Its a shame that you can't understand what he's trying to say, and maybe
before attacking someone you don't know and basically insulting everyone
else in the group by insinuating that we "kiss his feet"...you should do

Jeanne, frankly I'd be upset if you stopped posting updates. What upset
Michael I think was that the artwork was posted first as just "Wow, look at
this" and then we were slipped the sales pitch. You've never worked that way.

Dude, I swear, it's a conspiracy. I try to say two words to them, and they
fly up my ass like some weird anal parasite. I thought I was reasonably nice
about it, too.
I guess it's easy to understand that when someone is getting their internet
access from a television set, they become uncomfortable without a word from
their sponsors every eight minutes. They'll be gone as soon as the networks
get their shit together and make a few more Baywatch spin-offs.
I think too many of them are using really old, spare televisions from the '50s
and the radiation has mutated their formerly common sense.
Other are really nice, so they must have newer televisions.

I'm sorry, I don't agree. Linda's art is pretty, but every professional artist
knows the best way to make a bad drawing look good is to put it against a black
background to enhance the contrast. Most artists I know regard this as
cheating. This work is certainly eye-catching, but low on anatomy and
technique.
I didn't plan on saying this, because as an artist and art teacher myself I
don't rag on other people's work. But I also don't approve of art students
selling their work before they are ready, and I really hate it when people
misrepresent their intentions ("Hey I just found this FANTASTIC new website!!")
Michael's initial comment was that it smelled like spam, and I don't think he
was wrong in that.
I admire the effort and the initiative, and the pride Linda has in her work. I
hope she keeps it up.

Got at least three pro/semipro artists in the family. You're being far
more than

The face of the sable is more like a raccoon. The jaw is 'deformed'
with a twist
to the right. The ears are badly uneven size wise. She missed the
little 'point'
in the upper outer corner. The eyes are too far from the snout. At
least she
didn't misspell her name.
Wasn't going to bother looking until she got so nasty.

like a polar bear than a ferret. The ears are a bit better but that
face is wrong

Your reactions and attitude causes me to add my name to the list of
people who will not touch your stuff. As for the art being good, I've
seen other stuff that was consistently better, and for more reasonable
prices. Consider yourself killfiled.
As an aside to the rest, I first started onto usenet just before AOL
began its big invasion, and there was a considerable proliferation of
fools and ignorant types who used an AOL address. From what I've seen
from WebTV users, those AOL fools and idiots must have transferred enmass
to WebTV.

Yes, Kelly, I am sorry it didn't turn out better. I thought the pictures were cute
too. After everyone's input, I was almost ready to relent my position. (Which is
rare). However, I tried to gently point the correct path, and was attacked for my
efforts.
Be wary, Kelly, because there are also people who would like to flood this
newsgroup with advertising just because it's free. I shut these people down on a
daily basis, just so you don't have to see spam of people having sex with animals.
How would you like to put up with a dialy plug for ferret artwork from this
cretin? From her attitude, is apparent that her intentions were not in the best
interests of this group. You already know my intentions are hyper-defensive.
If anyone is really dissapointed, send me your ferret pictures, and I will put them
through some Photoshop filters that will simulate oil painting, watercolors,
charcoal, sketches, even scratchy etches. Of course, since the results are
related to the original photographs, they will be flawless in reproduction, and of
very high quality. Unlike spam. If you like the work, send a few bucks to your
favorite shelter.

Would you please drop this whole thing already!!!! You have caused me
more trouble than I did to myself. I should have never posted here in
the first place. There is no reason for the foul language from you or
Michael or anyone else. Everyone got out of hand here and I tried to
quietly depart but... you keep trying to defend me!
I do not care if people don't like my work. I enjoy doing it. The great
artists do what comes from there heart, whether it makes sense or
approved of or disapproved of. In art there are no rules. We do not have
to be totally realistic. Creativity comes from within. I did not know

The problem wasn't with Michelle's original post - well, Michael was getting

defending you and your work here. Unfortunately, the responses from both
yourself and Michelle were what ended up turning the tables.
Most of the regulars here get somewhat sensitive when they perceive a person
new to the newsgroup is attacking a regular, which I believe is why you got
so many negative responses after a while.
I'm sure if you spent some time settling in, post a little and become a
little better known, you would get to know what the people here are like and
what is considered acceptable and what isn't. Your pictures seemed to be
considered acceptable by the majority - Michael is a lovely guy, especially
when you get to know him, but *has* been known to go off the handle a little
at times, although rarely unprovoked - and I'm sure they would be
appreciated in the future. If you let everyone here get to know *you* and
not just post about your art, perhaps it would be accepted a little better
in the future.
Take Jeanne Carley as an example. She has some wonderful, wonderful work. I
live in awe of what wonders she can do with the camera, film, and a good
graphics editing programme. I'm also in awe of the sheer manhours (is that a
politically correct phrase in this day and age? 'person hours' just doesn't
have the same ring <G>) she puts in to the California Ferret Legalisation
effort, not to mention her help to other States or areas in need (such as
New York City etc) Her occasional post about her delightful products are not
only accepted, but usually gratefully appreciated by many here. Personally,
I'm already waiting for her 2001 Calendar hehehe I think she oughta come
here to New Zealand and take photos of my guys. C'mon Jeanne, you've only
seen a couple of my little girls! Maybe you can do a calendar with
'handicapped' ferrets? Not sure I think of Gemn as handicapped, but then,
she doesn't have a tail so, she'd count... I think <G>
A first post which is direct advertising wasn't a happy start. A second,
third... (etc) post slamming a regular was a definite booboo, but people
have done worse and come through unscathed <G> This is one of the joys of an
unmoderated newsgroup. If you should decide to stay and keep us company,
you're welcome. If you choose not to, that's your choice.

Sam, that little six year old (was it six or seven) with the incredible coat
that I met at the airport was phenomenal!!! I should do an oldies calendar
with just foofies over 5.
If I had the $$ to fly to NZ, rent a studio or borrow someone's large garage,
and spend a month, I'd photograph all your little guys. As it is, I travel to
Oregon quite a bit and to Nevada as well because they're close, a cheap.
Maybe you can talk Anne Geddes into inviting me to share her photo studio for a
month. Someone once told me they thought I was the Anne Geddes of ferret
photography. :)

the Friends of Fuzzies shelter in Bend? When Sam mentioned
"handicapped" ferrets, I thought of their spokesferret, Big
Bear, the dude with the wheelchair. I'd be more than happy

Ok, now *this* could be funny... How about for your next callendar, you do
a ferret version of an Anne Geddes-type Callendar? Ferrets dressed up as
flowers peeking out of pots, sleeping on branches dressed up like lady
bugs or butterflys... hee hee! This could be so much fun! Would you need
permission for that? I'm really liking this idea LOL! :) Maybe the next
year, she could make a callendar w/ babies on skate boards and sleeping in
champagne glasses...hmmmmm.......Nope..... Not as cute! <g>
