I used to have a ferret named Kazul who was one of the best companions
I've ever had. I got her from a pet store while I was living in
Oregon, and had her with me while attending college in Arizona. She
died a few years ago due to cancer, and I didn't think about getting
another one because she was so irreplaceable. Gradually I've started
to entertain the idea again, because I miss having a ferret in my
life, but now I'm living in California where you can buy everything
ferret related but the ferrets themselves at any mainstream outlet,
thanks to their ridiculous illegality. I know that many, many people
own ferrets here, but I'm trying to figure out how to find out where I
can find any breeders. Would I have to go over the border?

You may want to try some of the Yahoo Ferret Groups.

CAFerretExch has some interesting facts.

You never know what may come up.

I've never heard of a breeder in CA, tho that doesn't mean there isn't
one, of course. If you're willing to adopt an adult ferret, there
*are* shelters here. First place I'd try is Ferret Anonymous.

Give 'em a while to warm up to you, for obvious reasons.

If your heart's set on a kit, you'll probably have to go out of state.
There was a breeder in Bullhead last time I was there, about 5 years
ago, and another in Yuma posted APF until a couple years ago. They're
also available in Tijuana. Hablas Espanol?

If you don't mind a Marshall Farms kit (neutered and descented), there
are two pet stores in Vegas and one in Tahoe which sell them. Not that
I've ever patronized any of the above venues.. ;)

I found that today when I was checking out some sites and I thought you
might make use of it. Good luck!
