Hi.....I am a former Shar-pei owner. When I left NH 2 years ago, I had
to leave my dog with a friend.

Now, after two years, I think I can handle having another Shar-pei, (the
only breed I really LOVE)

The problem is that I also have a cat now.

I am wondering just how Shar-peis and Cats get along. Does anyone have
any info or experience on this. I would appreciate it greatly...either
as a post or an e-mail.

Paul

PS...My Shar-pei had two or three bouts with Hocks Syndrome...which was
also accompanied by very high fevers...Is this the same thing you are
calling Shar-Pei Fever ...she got through all episodes and is now almost
10 years old.

paul....i dont have any cats.....so i never knew how one of them would
react to one. i sold a femle that was ten months old to a girl n
canada...she has a cat. i was a tad worried as peipei (the dog) was by
no means a youg impressionable puppy any longer, and had never even seen
a cat. i get pictures almost daily of her and that darn cat curled up
together!! they are the best of pals!!

I have a 2 year old female Shar Pei and a 14 year old cat, who I took when
my grandad went to a nursing home. They get along great, but it took some
time. Actually, I keep them separated when I'm not around because my Pei
gets a little rough playing with the cat. However, the cat seems to take
care of herself okay since she still has claws to slap the dog with. All in
all, they like each other and seem to take care of one another.

I've had Peis before that got along with cats great. The one I have now,
though, I wouldn't trust with a cat, as she's a fabulous ratter.

I dont know how well they get along as newly introduced, but I gave a
sharpei a new home (he was used to cats) and I already had two cats. They
get along great. The sharpei thinks the cats are his, and plays with them
all of the time. Recently we adopted a new kitten and when we walked in the
door and asked the dog where the kitten was ("where's the kitten") he ran
off and came back a few minutes later with the kitten nudging her in the
rear. I've also caught the dog many many times petting the cat. He
actually lifts his paw, and PETS the cat on the back. It's bizzare. He
only does it when he thinks noone looking.

lol, my pei gives my sister's Cocker a hug each time she sees her. She will
place her head on her sholder and vice versa...its kinda cool.

I have always thought that dog put their head on another dog's sholders as a
sign of dominance.

I have a siamese cat who thinks she is a dog!! She plays and sleeps with
my SP and Rott. And if she gives off the wrong scream outside, you will
never see two dogs go outside through a doggy door as fast as those two.
