Hi all

Quick question. I seem to remember hearing that if a puppy is X big at
6 months old, he'll grow to be Y when full grown.

Now, I understand that pups grow at different speeds, etc., but does
anyone have a general rule? Will he be 80? 90? The dam was about 70;
not sure about the sire. He has a grandfather that hit 90.

Thanks!

The one I heard was double the weight at 4 months +/- 10% . I don't
know how true it is. My female yellow was 38 lbs at 4 months and is 50
lbs at 5 months , all muscle too.

I was wondering also. Wendy, f/black, was 14.x pounds at 8 1/2 weeks and
her feet have yet to grow bigger than they should be. She has also not
started to get 'lanky.' The vet warned me I might have a dog larger than
her parents (m/75, f/70) but the next month or two would tell. She is
healthy and as overactive as any lab pup should be!

She is 10 weeks now, no weight available, and still proportional in the
height/weight as an adult would look.

We have a male, chocolate lab. His parents were about 70-80 lbs. He is 1
1/2 years old and weighs 105. His weight seems to have leveled out now. He
is all muscle and very tall. When we got him at 8 months old, he weighed 76
lbs.

Hobson's going to be as big as he's going to be, and perhaps he hasn't
decided yet <G>. We were told that "they grow into their feet", and Lion
had *big* feet. He's a *big* dog. Of course, if Hobson's overfed, he'll be
bigger, but nobody would recommend that. Whatever, I expect he'll be
perfect. Mine are!

went straight up to 90 pounds at 10 months but stopped eating and reduced do
85 pound at 12 months which he still has at 2 1/2 years.

I got my months all out of whack. My wife had me convinced he was
turning 6 months tomorrow ... it's really 5. So he's 5 months
tomorrow and weighing in at 37 pounds...

well, that sounds not so bad to me. as a general rule i noted with all 3
labs i had until today about 2 pounds per week (here in germany more
precisely 1 kg)
labs need their mass for swimming in the water. i had my dogs even swim in
partly frozen lakes or in the north-sea with ice-rocks. .

Wendy (f/black) got her shots, kennel cough nose thing, heart worm
medicine, and the OK to play w/other dogs today at 12 weeks. She checked
in at 20 lbs, the vet thinks she will be 65-75 lbs ( MY perfect size for
a lab). She has started to get 'lanky', big feet (AND tummy), and is the
perfect gal. Well.. She has found out that the kitchen counter is ALMOST
w/in reach. I am thinking of raising the kitchen counters a foot or six,
to prevent temptation from being w/in lab reach. Yes, I have already
emptied the coffee table of all tempting stuff.

My Marceline, who's helping write this message, at last count, weighed 52.5
lbs. She' 1 1/2. I adopted her from a shelter where her "sleazer breeder"
dumped her. However, her vet said breeders in general are trying to create
shorter, squatter labs. Marcy does look just like the breed standard on the
AKC web site, only shorter.

Does anyone else know about this trend?

Our male black lab is 14 months and 82 lbs. My female GSD, however, is
11 weeks and 31 lbs. She's gonna be a monster. = )

The rate at which Labs grow varies with the indvidual dog. It is
better if your dog grows slow and steady. My dog is a monster
size 4year old lab who has suffered from OCD lesions of the
shoulder (possible cause accelerated growth and hip dysplaisa.
Here is his growth chart:
71/2 weeks when I got him 22lbs
16 weeks 62lbs
6 months 76 lbs
8 months 91 lbs
1 year 105 lbs
2 years 117 lbs
4 years (current weight and age 137.6 lbs
My vet says a trim weight for him would be 120- 125lbs.
Max's brother Bennie who is even larger 145 lean lbs (called by
his vet the largest lab he has ever seen was about 10 to 15 lbs
less then my dog growing up . He has not experienced any growth
related health problems. I am aware of his weight and health as
he is owned by my brother

Holy Toledo!
I knew Jadee was puny at 8 pounds when we got her at 8 weeks old... I
can't imagine a 22 pounder !! She was the runt of the litter, which fwiw,
is the first question the vet asked us when we diagnosed her kidney
problems. Now at 2 + a few months, she's a tad chunky at 68 lbs.
