Is the cat going so much at once that there's not enough litter to
properly form a clump, or is it something chemical in the cat's urine
that's preventing it to form a solid? Any information would be
greatly appreciated. I have to do this EVERY DAY.
I only have one cat, but I get that too with the high quality litter I'm
using. I believe it happens because she always pees in the same two corners
and the repeated peeing in the same area overwhelms the litter. What I've do
us use a solid scoop in that area, one that doesn't have the slots in it to
filter properly clumped litter. I don't consider it much of a problem
because I only do her litter box every three days or so. Having three cats,
you probably can't do that. The only thing I can suggest if the cat in
question goes in the same place might be to put down a piece of plastic
sheeting or something like that. Then you can lift it all out en masse.
Can't think of anything else. Love your cat for who he is and don't let his
peeing habits freak you out. At least he's using the litter box. It could be
many times worse as some will testify.
I solved that problem. I have fourteen cats (most go outside) but room for
only three litter pans. I don't use things labeled as 'litter pans' - I
use large plastic storage boxes (35 quart, I think) and keep them about
half full, or a bit more (about 30 pounds of clumping litter). If the
litter in a pan gets too shallow, the problem returns, so I make sure they
stay well filled. I use a coarse strainer from the kitchen gadgets
section of Walmat as a scoop - it's like a large spoon with a wire mesh
bowl and is much stronger than the typical plastic litter scoop.

I thought about the quantity of litter and keep it filled. I don't
think the type of scoop will help as I use a metal scoop but the wet,
thick litter just sticks to it like a thick yucky batter.
I have a cat that likes to go at the side or corner too. It sounds
like perhaps you don't have enough litter in the box. Maybe try
pouring it on deeper so there's more in the area to absorb the urine
. How soon after he goes are you scooping? If he just went, it would
be very damp. Maybe your scooping and his urination schedules need to
be offset a little more. :-)
I think much of it has to do with the cat going in the same place
repeatedly. The first few times there's enough dry litter to clump, but then
the cat goes there again and the part that is already clumped gets peed on
again and there's really not enough dry litter around to absorb it all so it
just sits there with over saturated litter. But as I said earlier, things
could be worse with a cat that doesn't use the litter box all the time, so I
can't complain when it happens.

It's not just the amount of litter - the size of the pan also matters: the
larger the pan, the less the cat has to back up toward the edge to have
enough room in front.

Are you using enough litter? A good clumping litter that is deep
enough is easy to scoop out. Mind you now, good clumping litter is not
cheap. Be thankful the cat uses the box and not the floor or even
worse carpeting.
