Identifying the userID

I have configured xinetd (linux) to invoke my server deamon.

xinetd and PERL do the hard work of setting up the connections and re-direct STDIN and STDOUT.

Is there a way for the server PERL programme to query STDIN to identify the user ID that
initiated the socket connection?
