Hello all, Edna here, returned from Scotland and ready to post anew.

Consider this a test post, as my server has upgraded something in my
absence and now when I try to view my mail or post, I get:

1) an initial list of x number of posts to a thread, which when I
open the thread turns out to be not the number of posts I can actually
view (nowhere near the amount that are supposed to be there);
2) a 'warning' message, cryptic enough, which intones: 'Your server
does not have Xref: in its XOVER information. Tin will try [can't
you just hear the whining?] to use XHDR XREF instead (whine, whine),
but it slows things down a bit.'

On a more important note: I came home to discover that Jack Frost, whose
heels are currently dug in up here in the US Pacific NW, had frozen my
pipes at home...tried the hot-water-on-a-rag-tied-to-the-suspected-pipe
routine--to no avail. I pray for rain, believe it or not, on Christmas
Day. Meanwhile I shower at a neighbor's and lug water home in a 5-gallon
container. I should I suppose count my blessings as my power never goes
out [touch wood] and this would be the greater evil of the two. Have
taken a reading of the water meter this a.m. while the main valve inside
the house is shut off; and if when things thaw out I see the meter move,
I'll sadly know that some pipe in the front yard has gone kaput. Hope
not. Damn, we are all so vulnerable, no? I forgot to let the trickle of
water run this time--now I know it's not just a clever ploy to run up the
water bill.

In spite of it all I cast aside my own petty worries and wish a happy
holiday season to you, apfpy'ers, especially the plumbers amongst us.
Think of me as you casually engage your sundry faucets/taps over the
weekend, will you?

Edna, Try Using your hand held hair dryer on the pipes. Rig it so it
will blow hot air on the pipes unattended then move it every now and
then. If they are exposed so you can get to them that is... like in a
basement or under the sink. Underneath the house is a whole nother story
depending on how leery you are of dark cramped spaces. <g> Good luck.
Rick.
