Government officials threaten to close church for sheltering homeless refugees

The South African Council of Churches has reacted strongly to a threat by the
Gauteng provincial government to close the Central Methodist Church in
Johannesburg because it has provided shelter to homeless refugees.

In a media statement the council accuses the government of failing to deal
with the refugee problem, and then threatening churches that do so.
