In the footsteps of peace

There are footsteps here. The dream of peace is not mine alone. It is
comforting to see. It is the courage and determination of people to
follow their dreams that have allowed me to stand here today.
I believe humanity can live in peace, but for many, peace is just a
word. It has lost its meaning, its potential.
I do not speak for humanity. I am one person among the billions. All I
am is what I carry within my heart. As I walk forward, I know that the
search for peace is a challenge we all face, both as individuals and
as a people
I do not know what I’ll face in front of me. All I know is that life
shouldn’t carry on like this. Violence should not be commonplace.
Humanity should not have to shed a river of tears. We are better than
that. Each time that a man or woman discovers enough of the courage,
resolve, tolerance, cooperation, compassion and integrity to find the
peace within them, it is another footstep humanity takes towards world
peace.
With all my heart, I believe in the oneness of life, that we all care
for its future. All I can ever hope to do is to find the courage and
determination to walk the path that brings peace to my life, to bring
peace to the world. To do this, I look for the common good that
humanity shares. It is my choice, my resolve, to treat others like I
would like to be treated. There are so many good people in life. Many
hope to live in peace, to see its potential. I am one of them.
