One of the problems with employee leasing is that it takes the control of
many things away from the business owner, they become employees of the
leasing company themselves. It is a way of "hedging" unemployment and other
rates by averaging them across industries. Therefore, the only way to keep
rates down and costs down is by constantly finding new businesses to add to
the program.

I saw this thread on deja news and just wanted to
add my two cents worth. Granted, the employee
leasing service does hedge against tax and
insurance rates sometime. More and more,
employee leasing clients are breaking even or
paying more for services. This is due in part to
increased regulations and laws. The biggest
advantage to small clients has nothing to do with
cost savings. Instead employee leasing companies
offer a myriad of services and a level of
expertise that the small client could not afford
on their own. Employee leasing companies
don't "average" rates across industries. Most
employee leasing companies underwrite each client
on the basis of the individual client's merits.
Employee leasing programs are very seldom
considered joint and several. Employee leasing
companies control costs by managing claims and
establishing policies and procedures. Just my two
cents worth!
