Looking Over The Bridge (Built In 1936) by Will Dockery
Will Dockery
Freefloating ashes
down slowly to the creek
to the gunky dirty sewer creek.
On a cigarette pack
I write these words
with an ancient pencil
maybe sent down from God
because my pen is lost.
The sky's a murky pea soup
but it will not rain
there is no rain in this town
those were different times.
The city is overcast
by bright grey transluscent shadows
as I ride borther Dave's bike
stop on this bridge for a smoke.
I don't nessesarily want to go
I have to go.
Cigarette butt falls down quickly
with a blur
a swirling flourish
then slowly moves downstream.
What year was this bridge built?
Seems so ancient
I must remember to check the date on it
when I leave it.

One of the things that sickens me most about the new breed of racist
is the "revisionism" ie: Blacks were better off as slaves, 6 million
Jews did not die, the Indians just walked over the Bering Stait and
this land wasn't "really" theirs anyhow... and on and on. Now I know
most of us are too young to have owned slaves, heard that one till I
wanna Varment, I know none of us pulled the switches at Auswitch, or
there when Belsen was a gas, and probably none of us participated in
the slaughter and rape of the mighty Creek Nation. Just as I wasn't
there when my descendants were being smacked down by the Brits (Go
BraveHeart! Show 'em Rob Roy! @;-} ) but there seems little doubt
these things happened. Hating a race you don't even know is one
thing, but denying the pain they've suffered seems to take it to a
dark Karmic level. We had 911... what about when the OTHER shoe
drops? Just thoughts... anyone have an opinion???
