Neptune, Osiris, Merlin, Mannanon,Helios, Shiva, Horned One.

BTW, that's "Inanna", *not* "Inannu". Fussy type, that Goddess.

I once learned :

Pan, Woden, Baphomet, Cernnunos, Osiris

but the tune is different and sort of fits with the Goddess chant.

I have always heard the god chant this way:
Osi-ris, A-don-is, Khu-ruz, Pan, Dio-ny-sus, Shi-va, Da-mu-zi

Khuruz being a variation of the name Cernunnos and pronounced koo-rooz
and the last name, Damuzi, being drawn out like Innana in three
syllables.
Note that these God names are a reflection of the Goddess names, from
the same cultures, Isis and Osiris, Astarte and Adonis, Diana (or Danu)
and Khuruz, (Cernunnos) Hecate and Pan, Demeter and Dionysus, Kali and
Shiva, Inanna and Damuzi.

But this may just be a regional variation here in the West.

Well, if you keep the same pantheons, then try

Osiris, Baal, Apollo, Pluto, Dionysus, Shiva, Damuzzi (or Tammuz) but
the problem is that some of these are not an exact match (i.e. Hecate,
Demeter and Diana) 'cause they really didn't have consorts or opposites
in their pantheon.

Hmmmmmm. Merlin? I wasn't aware he had risen to god-hood.... I
mean that seems illogical what with so many people claiming to be Merlin
reincarnated.

Christy Moore on his cd "Smoke & Strong Whiskey" sings the Burning Times
song and in that song, he uses the Isis Astarte... chant. It's a
wonderful and powerful song and it gives me goosebumps every single time I
hear him sing it!

I am not certain where to find this, but I believe I have heard on the public radio a
song called "Burning Times" by Rumors of the Big Wave? that sings the chant
Isis Astarte Diana Hecate Demeter Kali, Innana.

And I probably misspelled one or more of their names.

I have searched long for this CD so if anyone knows the real artist or song title,
please enlighten me.

The son is called "Burning Times" and the tape/CD is also titled
"Burning Times". The group is Rumors of the Big Wave. The lead vocals
and guitar are by Charlie Murphy.

Hope this helps.

The following is a listing of Chant sources from my collection. It is not
comprehensive of all that is available or even all that is on/in the
various sources, many of these are consistently available in the various
metaphysical bookstores in my region. Some of the chants are rarely heard,
others are so common there are regional variations on both the lyrics and
the tunes. Some of the music has been studio polished, and some of it is
recordings that are more causal, so the quality of the voices can vary.
If you can't find them locally, try contacting Serpentine Music or

Again, this is not a comprehensive listing, but a guide to several sources
of words -and- music to chants and ritual songs found in my collection.
Lots of books have chants and poems, these are the ones that I know also
include the musical notation to help you figure it out on your own if you
need to.

Circle of Song: Songs, Chants and Dances for Ritual and Celebration by
Kate Marks, Full Circle Press 1993 ISBN 0-9637489-O-4 278 pages
Best of the three, in the Native American section I saw chants and sogs I
know from a childhood in Montana but also lincludes a lot of the standard
Wiccan and Neo-Pagan chants as well.

Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft by Ray Buckland Llewellyn Press
1986 ISBN 0-87542-050-8
Only one chant in here is used much in the PNW.

Year of Moons, Season of Trees by Pattalee Glass-Koentop Llewellyn Press
1991 ISBN 0-87542-269-1

Includes not only the previously mentioned god chants but also has a
Charge of the God that goes well with D. Valiente's Charge of the Goddess.

Other sources that I've overlooked?

One that I've seen/heard is
Mithra Osiris Cernunnos Apollo Hanuman Wotan Chango

I occasionally have trouble getting the syllables to fit quite
right, but it's a place to start from if nothing else.

I learned the "Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Inanna"
chant from a cassette called "Drink from the Well", available from the
Souds True catalogue.

I learned it as "Mithra [Neptune], Osiris, Myrddin, Manannon, Helios,
Shiva, Horned One"; this was part of the 7-part contrapuntal version
I learned.

There's also a tape called From the Goddess which has the chant
in question as part of a round. Wish I could remember the artist's name,

A Bard's Book of Pagan Songs by Hugin the Bard

A book with many, many (mostly Celtic in origin) songs and chants
complete with time and chord notations and multiple verses for each song.
A great one for the musically inclined and the not-so musically inclined. :)

Hello everybody. I've been reading with great interest the recent postings
concerning the "Goddess Chant" and possible God counterparts.

My name is Kurt Griffith, a.k.a Talking Stone and I and the director of the
Four Winds Earth Chorus in New York City, home of a funky, but rockin' Pagan
community. We've done some research into the subject and would like to share
some stuff.

The "Goddess Chant" is part of a song called "The Burning Times" by Charley
Murphy, he also wrote the Solstice honoring "Light Is Returning". Another
rendition of "Burning Times" appears on Todd Alan's Carry Me Home tape/CD(?).
Over time many pagan folk extracted the Goddess Chant and used it in their
rituals and it got passed from circle to circle.

I have seen several versions of "God Chants" over the years but the one that
we've settled on was one put together by a local pagan fellow, Peter Hoffer
a.k.a Shadow who just recently passed over. Earlier versions that attempted to
provide the precise pantheic/mythological counterparts were, of course,
pendantically and literally correct, but they were mostly beasts to sing. The
scanning and syllable counts never quite worked out.

In preparing a public Samhain ritual some years back, the pagan networking
organization New Moon New York struggled with this problem. we finally decided
that the chants in their intention was not to call upon not just the specific
deities named, but the Goddess Principle, or the universal Feminine Power. Once
that idea jelled, Peter wrote the version that the Chorun now uses and is
common in the Northeast.

Mithras Osiris Cernunnos Appolo Hannuman Wotan Chango (or Sango)

These Gods are not the exact consorts of the Goddesses in the Goddess Chant,
but they equally represent the God Principle, or the universal Masculine Power.
It is also nicely singable.

I hope this was helpful to people. Sharing bardic lore is an important part of
Four Winds spiritual mission.

Blessings, Kurt Talking Stone

Does that mean that it doesn't have scores? I really want music with
scores so that I know how it should *sound*!! That's been my big beef.
Right now I've just got the notes written in above the lyrics in _The
Oak, Ash & Thorn Episcipagan Choir Hymnal_ but someday in my copious free
time (ha!) I hope to get it all scored.

Let me clrify:). The Bard's Book of Pagan Songs does provide
sheet music for the songs it contains along with the verses. A word of
warning though, if you're a strictly by ear or C Major musician as I tend
to be, this book will offer some challenges as a good many of the songs
are written in other keys. I've had to get out my old music notation book
from college and transcribe using it, so that I can actually play the
songs instead of trying to muddle through the keys I'm less skilled
with. :)

Another variation is the one that my group uses... the syllables come out
quite well

Pan, Herne, Osiris, Priapus, Baal, Dionysus, Apollo, Lugh

BTW: I meet Charlie Murphy (writer of "The Burning Times" and others) at
Heartland this past spring... very nice man... quiet, unassuming... but
when he plays and sings.... Magic Happens.
