This is the second album by Flash Silvermoon. It was released more
than five years ago, which I can hope is a sign that she is preparing
to release another disc in the near future.
Although, as I commented in my review of her debut album, her music
isn’t the sort I would normally seek out, I may have to expand my
criteria.
There are some additional influences at play on this album. It is
easy to feel the Afro-Caribbean influence, especially in “Dancing with
the Snake.”
This album has a more pronounced “blues” feel to it than her previous
one. I have to be in a particular mood to enjoy this style normally.
I don’t know if this album just caught me in one of those moods, or if
it inspired it in me. In either event, the result was one of the most
pleasant listening experiences I have had in quite a while (and I’ve
been immersed in some good music lately).
I always like it when the lyrics are included in the liner notes. My
ears aren’t what they used to be (in fact, nothing is) and it is nice
to have the lyrics handy although, as with most of the vocalists I
have been listening to lately, Flash Silvermoon enunciates so clearly
I found little need for them.
I am really hopeful that Flash will be releasing more work in the
future. I know that it takes time to compose the music, write the
lyrics, and produce the final product. But now that I have rectified
my mistake of not finding this exceptional artist before now, I really
don’t want to wait for more of her music. In fact, and this isn’t
something that I say too often, I would even be willing to stir out of
my hobbit hole (okay, my apartment) and plunk down the coin of the
realm to add it to my collection.
