In that connection, Channel 4 over here showed a film called Gas
Attack - a bit of a misnomer because it was about biological not
chemical weapons.
Shot in a gritty, documentary style it deals with the outbreak of
what, at first sight, seems to be flu amongst a population of Kurdish
refugees housed in a poor suburb of Glasgow.
Gradually, it becomes clear that it was an anthrax infection, partly
through the efforts of the heroine - a feisty female social worker.
It also becomes apparent that it is being spread deliberately -
biological terrorism. Initially, the authorities believe it is the
work of a terrorist group. Our feisty heroine, meanwhile, does a
quick trawl on the Internet and finds all the information she needs to
grow the anthrax bacterium in a basement and spread it using a fire
extinguisher.
The authorities belatedly come to the conclusion that it isn't a
terrorist group but a lone nutter - part of the story is about how the
authorities bungle the handling of the crisis. The terrorist,
meanwhile, has threatened a second, larger attack unless all refugees,
gypsies, Jews etc, are expelled from the country.
Just before the deadline expires the police raid the flat of a neo-
Nazi loner who works as a septic tank engineer. They find all the
evidence but the baddie isn't there...

A letter, yes. It's all over the news here in Florida. The news building is
within a few miles from the airport where Atta flew some private planes. The
man who died has a home a mile or so from there as well. It looks like it
was something at American Press building as another man there had traces of
the spores in his nose and worked in the mailroom there. Anyway, I'm trying
not to let paranoia and fear get the best of me but I find it more than
coincidental. It could be a single nutter though not related in any way to
the terrorist WTC attacks. We shall see..

This was a fictional story, right ?
So far... :)
Cut that out! :Ş
And also to a suspicious email sent to employees by a summer intern
saying that he was leaving a surprise behind.

Sorry. Just kidding. Honestly :)
It's probably just a coincidence or, if the email is connected,
somebody with a grudge.
Mind you...
From a terrorist's viewpoint it has possibilities. Suppose you've
found a way to culture anthrax in large enough quantities and can
handle it safely. Imagine sealing a little of it in thousands of
envelopes, disguised as junk mail possibly, and posting them all over
the country from different locations. It wouldn't have to infect or
kill that mnay people but there would be outbreaks all over the
country. Sooner or later, the source would be identified as ordinary
mail.
Think of the chaos. People would refuse to open any mail. Postal
workers would refuse to handle it until they were sure it was safe.
It would bring the postal service grinding to a halt. All for the
cost of a few envelopes and stamps.
Which today the FBI is saying is unsubstantiated.

Which today the FBI is saying was a bogus report.
