I need instructions on how to install a keyboard other than the standard 101
on Windows 98. I have a 122 key IBM keyboard and drivers that I used under
Windows 95 but can't figure out how the keyboard install routine works in
Windows 98. No matter what I try, I cannot get the 101 keyboard removed from
the system and cannot get Win98 to correctly install the 122. Any help would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Model number for what? I have an IBM 122 key keyboard. It has 122 keys and a
PS/2 style connector. It is not on the standard list of Win98 keyboards.
The keyboard functions fine except I cannot access the extra features of the
122 (i.e. 24 PF keys). These extra features are needed by my IBM mainframe
programmers. In effect I cannot upgrade to Win98 if I can't get this style
keyboard to function. I have the drivers I used to install this keyboard
under Win95. My problem is that after I install the keyboard via Add New
Hardware the Win98 keyboard app in Control Panel does not see the keyboard.
Control Panel - System sees both the 122 (says it is not installed
correctly) and the 101. I have tried to unenable the 101 and enable the 122
in System. Upon reboot Win98 completely removes the 122 and reverts to the
101. I can find no way to switch keyboards via Control Panel - Keyboard. It
appears that this app has been substantially changed from Win95. In Win95
you just added your new keyboard via this app. The only thing you can do in
Win98 is add and remove languages. Windows 98 help is no help as usual. Have
you tried to install a keyboard other than the standard keyboards included
with Windows 98? If so please explain to me how you did it.

For this...

................ since they all have one, and since it's the only way you're
gonna get info from IBM about it.

If it is possible, you need the ones for win98, now if we just had that
model #, we MIGHT can find them-- this of course, depends on IBM though as
to whether they have been updated.

That's because you can only add English (United States) once. To change the
layout, you don't click add.

Look again. You can also click Properties. Viola! -- keyboard layout. If
yours is listed -- great!! -- if not, we're back to that model # thing :-)
If it does indeed work, check device manager to make sure the old one is
gone-- if not, remove it.

>Windows 98 help is no help as usual.

Hmmmmmmmm..... you will find this info by simply clicking the start button
and then help-- it has this wonderful search tab :-)

Nope. Actually I haven't. But I wouldn't put 98 on anything before I had
visited the websites of all manufacturer's for drivers and BIOSes updates.
And I would advise you of the same.

good luck!!
