hi i had a great CD not some random shit download from the internet.
it went in found hard drives not even recognized by OS or anything
else.
once found it gave you access to all files and you could copy whatever
you wanted to an external drive.
none of this from even logging into windows.
this was OS independent. it might have even been a super awesome
version of Linux.

any and all suggestions appreciated.

the disk booted to a live environment and looked close enough to
windows. so i could use it without a fuss.

why didn't i make a few copies or write down the name. ahhh.

Most Linux versions that can be burned to a "Live" (bootable) disk will
do what you want.

Parted Magic is one of the smaller ones that I always keep around.

thanks for the info.
i hooked up the hard drive to my PC and i got a message the disk is
corrupt you must format before continuing.
on the original computer the computer booted up to the windows log in
screen but then it cycled.
i used spinrite and it took 3 weeks to do 6% and even then it was all
unrecovered. sectors.
its my cousin's baby pics and about 1000 more different pics i just
need to pull out.

thanks again for any input into this matter.

i tried pmajic and ubcd511 both work as discs when i boot up. nether
is recognized by my system at start up.
i get a black screen for about an hour and then i just give up i don't
hear the CD initializing so i don't know what is going on wrong.
i used Ubuntu before and it was great i have other Linux discs that
work but these will not work.

could it be because i am on the wide screen.
seriously all Linux distros should have fixed this problem already.
many people use wide screens now.
i seriously hope this is not the problem.
unfortunately i don't have another screen to try it on. so i don't
know what else i can do.
any help is appreciated.

The disk boots fine on my wide (1680x1050) monitor, but it's possible
that that Linux distro doesn't have good drivers for your video card. I
would think, however, that if that were the case it would warn you and
go into straight VGA mode.

Another possibility (assuming the CDR is first in the boot sequence) is
that your CDR is failing too. The long delay just shouldn't happen when
all the hardware is functioning.
