Screen orientation in Windows XP

I was working in an app in Windows XP and pressed Alt Ctrl 174 on the
numeric keypad. In that app it should have inserted a character, but
instead it passed the command on to Windows, and it changed the screen
orientation from landscape to portrait, so that now the screen appears
sideways.

How can I get it back to the normal landscape orientation?

It's not a Windows XP thing, it's a function of your display adapter
driver. If you click on the display icon in the System Tray you should
find the rotation controls. You might also be able to get at them by
right-clicking of the Desktop.

The key combination might be Alt+Ctrl+Up Arrow.

Why did you press Ctrl?

The Alt-keypad codes are a Windows thing not a particular program.
They should work in any program regardless of its source.

What program requires you to press Ctrl with it?
