My question is - is there anyone out there using the proper Chinese version
of Windows XP? I want to know whether I can have menus and dialogue boxes to
be displayed in English. I know this isn't possible with older Chinese
Windows versions - but i'm hoping it's a new feature to the Chinese
WindowsXP.
Thanks!

I use English XP pro, without the multilanguage pack (which only translates
menus, dialogue boxes, help files, etc), but I can type, view, process
simplified and traditional Chinese.
The BIG5 or GB encoding, I'm not sure what you meant. In Outlook express you
can choose to encode emails in Big5 or GB anyway.

There differences between BIG5 and GB are mainly technical - the
former is for traditional chinese whilst the latter is for simplified
Chinese. They are only an encoding format - since there are actually
many ways to represent Chinese characters on a computer. The UTF-8
format (Unicode) aims to standardise all languages in a single
encoding format - this is what English Windows XP uses.
Unfortunately, UTF-8 is stil not supported by most Chinese and English
applications so filenames saved in this format are generally not
readable with a native Chinese Windows.
Thanks for your help.
