On starting up this A.M., I was greeted with a message 'suggesting' that I
install MS's .net and apply for a passport so that I can use certain
internet features, such as chat, video, etc. I recall during a windows
update session, it noted that .net, once installed, was not removeable.

My grandson (11 years old) chats frequently with friends. He uses AOL IM
and I am pretty sure that his computer does NOT contain a passport, let
alone any .net software (he's running Win 98). I do not chat, don't
purchase online, and have no plans to do so in the future. I might like to
get into 2-way video in the future.

So what's the deal with .net? Is Netmeeting tied in with it or with
passports? Are there alternatives (hopefully) to having MS 'control'
everything?

"Flickering lights does not necessarily indicate 2-way traffic to your
computer. This is likely all 'noise' or your system constantly checking
your modem. A better indication is your firewall (icon). Is it indicating
any upstream/downstream traffic? I assume you have a firewall."

So theres a while family of dumbasses out there if AOL's involved.

Next you'll be saying u've switched to luinx

Anyhow, a .net passport is not the same as the .net program framework. The
.net microsoft are trying to get you to download adds functionality to run
programs designed in MS Visual Studio.

Correct, but this isn't the .net M$ are trying to get them to download, so
it has no relevance here.

Quote modified from the Peanut Gallery, and modified (slightly) to sum up
the so called "Kadaitcha Man"

'To even suggest that "Kadaitcha Man" need psychological help would be to
offer them the unjustifiable prospect of a normal life.'

Repost due to obvious errors:

You put two 'h's in your bwaha, it is therefore not valid and must be
stricken from the record.

Well, you can plagiarise stuff from my website until the cows come home but
it won't alter the sheer fuckwittery in the OP's statement or the fact that
you agreed with it. Will it, fucktard?

It knocked a flock of starlings out of a tree in the back paddock. There's
thousands of them, eyes half open, toes up on the ground. Must get that
halitosis seen to.

Reinforce halistosis with large quantities of Stella Artois (and pour some
in your router too), then blow the starlings out of the air, they die
instantly
