Under MY DOCUMENT/LOCAL SETTINGS/TEMP I have all sorts of folders with tmp
after them. Some are IXP00 and others the same with tmp again.

The file is usually FILE APPLICATION - TEXT DOCUMENT or something like
that...

is it ok to delete them including the folders or should I just stick to
getting rid of temporary internet files?

i hate temp files and persue them to the ends of the earth to delete them
but in XP, everything seems a wee bit different than ME or 98.

thanks

The temp folder in XP works exactly the same as in previouse windows
versions, although its in a different place now. It is usually safe to
delete all the files in the folder, although often windows wont let you
delete a couple because they are in use.

Just looked at mine. Temp setup files for all the things I installed in
the last couple days. Nothing in \Windows\Temp like in ME or 98. These are
your user temp files. Just deleted all except the 2 that said "in use", as
mentioned by our friend, Ian. These are deleted by Disk Cleanup if they are
old enough.
This explains why the Ramdisk I installed for temp directory was always
empty---I moved the wrong folder there :-(
