Assitance required pleasw!!!

Trying to upgrade from WinMe to XP Pro.

Upgrade advisor works fine, however as the installation files are being set
up are get the following error message for each of the following files:

"An error occurred copying file xxxxxx to C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\ xxxxxxx

cmdide.sys
c_1252.nls
cpqarray.sys
cd20xrnt.sys
cbidf2k.sys
classpnp.sys
cdrom.sys
cdfs.sys

XP backs out successfully and WinME is working fine again.

Does anyone have any ideas.

Thanx in advance.

POB.

Have you tried to do a compatibility test first to see if your hardware is
supported?

I've upgraded two machines from ME to XP Home, both with different results
even though everything was compatible. The best results came when I backed
up the data on one, obtained the latest drivers, then I did a clean install.
A bit of a pain to re-install all of the software but the performance was so
superior on the one after the clean install, I did the same on the other
with the same favourable results. Ever since then I have had no problems at
all.

Greetings --

In my experience, file copy errors during installation are most
often caused by, in order of likelihood, a defective hard drive, one
or more defective RAM modules, or a defective motherboard. Computer
components designed for use with Win9x/Me very often fail to meet
WinXP's much more stringent hardware quality requirements. In
particular, WinXP is quite sensitive to borderline defective RAM and
hard drives that may have seemed to have worked fine with Win9x/Me.
(Who'd notice a little extra instability? ;-} ) Have you checked
with the motherboard's manufacturer to see if a BIOS upgrade it
required to provide WinXP-compatibility?
