I use Internet Connection sharing to share a cable modem connection. the
ICS host runs XP and the clients run XP, ME and Win2K. Everything works
fine. However, everytime I reboot the XP host I have to "re-install" ICS to
get it to work on the clients. Even though the box is checked to share the
connection and it shows in the status box as "Enabled, Shared" I have to
unsahreit and go through the process of setting it up on the host all over
again. Is ICS supposed to work this way or should it automatically allow
the client to share the connection each time the host re-boots?

Thanks,

It should not work that way. How is the ICS machine connected to the
others? If you have 2 NIC's in it, are they identical?

The host has 2 NIC cards but they are 2 different types of cards. One is
for the home peer-to-peer network and the other connects to the cable modem.

Are you running a firewall? In particular a software firewall on the host
machine? I run sygate on ICS and im the host of ICS, and each time this
computer is switched off before the other computer is switched off etc., I
have to disable the firewall when my computer has restarted for 5-30 seconds
or so until I hear a beep that signifies that the ICS is up and working
again: then I can turn my firewall on again and the ICS stays working fine

I do have a firewall running on the system. I will try your suggestion and
see if that works. If its the case I think Microsoft should do something to
fix that (fat chance of that I suppose).
