I have a Plexwriter where the device driver cannot be loaded due to a
corrupt driver. I have no access to my CD-Rom drive.

1. I tried uninstalling the DVD/CD-Rom Drive and reinstalling by
adding new hardware but the status is the same.
2. I logged on the Plextor website to install the latest driver but
one was not needed as those supplied with Win XP would suffice.
3. I went to windows update to see if any updates or drivers would be
needed but all was fine

Any suggestions to reinstall those original drivers would be greatly
appreciated.

(It's correct that a special driver is not required.) Try deleting the IDE
Channel and reboot.

This happened to me, too. It's apparently a known problem when you remove
Easy CD Creator basic (in order to install an upgraded version). Roxio just
goes ahead and uninstalls your cd-rom and dvd.

You have to go into the registry and make two small deletions. The very
instant you do that, your devices will return. It's covered in Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article #314060. I believe it's also mentioned on the Roxio
site under troubleshooting somewhere.
