What are .dat files?

Do a SEARCH on them. What folders are they in??? a .dat file is usually a
DATA file that some program needs to use. The folder you find them in
should give you some hint what they are for.

That sounds like Checkdisc has been running. It saves any lost files. If all
else is ok then chuck 'em away.

Dat file is a singular occurrence of one of dem files.
