Hi, I was having a problem with an application that would steal focus
and jump to the foreground whenever it wanted user input.

I wanted to stop it from being able to do this and after a bit of
searching around I found out about the ForegroundLockTimeout registry
setting, which apparently specifies how long an application has to
wait before it can force itself to the foreground.

After changing this value to an appropriately large number, I now find
that the application in question is no longer able to steal focus,
however it *does* still manage to jump into the foreground! So in
effect it is still just as annoying as ever.

Can anyone tell me of a way I can stop this happening?

Thanks in advance.

Don't use that registry setting. Instead, download the Microsoft XP Program
Pack called "PowerToys". These are "toys" that let you play with Window's
settings. The TweakUI part of it (in the control panel after you install)
will let you choose to "Not let applications steal focus" and how long their
task bar button flashes. Seach for XP PowerToys on the Microsoft.com web
site.

Thanks for the reply. I tried TweakUI and still get the same problem,
it's very strange, it's almost as if the app can defy the Windows
settings and force itself to the front no matter what. Not sure what
to try next, any other ideas appreciated.
