This doesn't necessarily exclude anyone else but I wanted to call the
attention of John R and Kman because, in my opinion after reading
through countless posts on various subjects, I find these two to be
the most knowledgeable on the subject of XP. No offense to anyone
intended.
I am having some serious issues with wmp 8. I know it's a wmp
issue because other multimedia programs play video fine. The problemis
when I play a video file it plays like its in slow motion and catches
quick then back to slow motion etc. This is happening with all types
of video files (mpg avi asf etc) My codecs are up to date and divx is
installed. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

p.s. Since I know many are offended by kmans sense of humor you may
find a good chuckle @

Quite frankly I think he's hilarious and I'm sure he'll be calling me
a moron soon enough.

Ok, Chris. I'll give it a shot. Hopefully, you didn't scare off the more
knowledgeable.
There is a known issue with WMP and some cards. Try disabling all the
"extras", like the equalizer, SRS, and the Plus! speaker enhancer (if you
have it). You can try turning some of these back on if your problem
disappears.
Also check your DirectX (Run: dxdiag). You may as well perform all the
tests in this section, but you may want to skip the Direct Play online
gaming one. Pay particular attention to the box at the bottom that tells you
the status of your DirectX files and whether the drivers are certified. If
your drivers are not "certified", try to find some that are. WMP is only
designed to work with these drivers.
And lastly (because I am out of ideas), remember that video and music are
real-time and fragmentation of the video/audio files can reduce performance.
You might try opening task manager and right-clicking wmplayer to raise its
priority. I wouldn't suggest raising it to real-time priority, but I believe
the default is "normal". Try it up one notch.
Good luck and let us all know, please.

I have had dramatic reduction in WMP performance with a pagefile that is
too small or fragmented.

You might also try a lower setting of the hardware acceleration. I had a
card that worked much better at a lower setting.

Yes, he did ask nicely, but I cast my bait and troll for trollers of trolls,
and won't dance for anyone ;-)

As for getting up 10 hours before me, contrary to the popular belief that
America is the most advanced nation on earth, it is a matter of absolutely
verifiable fact that America is 10 hours behind Australia.

Even I won't argue that point.

OK. I'll give you the day ahead crap by international convention. The Sun
still moves East to West and I am getting up as you go to bed.

Damn. Left that cam on, again. I am not sure. I have to sneak up on a
glass of water; when I was born, the doctor slapped my mother; etc.
