Can you open a terminal?

It should be on the menu under System Tools.

If you can, type the following command:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

That is an informaiton text file that will tell you what the system thinks
in terms of what CPUs are there and what their specs are...

The difference is that, as a dyed-in-the-wool Windows user, I am alert to

Yes. It's a very fast machine. The slow part was downloading the patches and
updates over my 1.5Mbps pipe.

It has often fucked up the MBR and clobbered Windows installations. It seems
to have improved a bit though.

Not at all. XP goes on first so there is no LILO. Besides, I can promote and
demote disk device slots in BIOS, so this linux installation doesn't even
know about my Server 2003 installation on my RAID drives. It only knows
about the XP on the secondary IDE channel. Neat, huh.

No. I have a 21" monitor and the low resolution with 60Hz vertical refresh
is fucking awful to look at. Nobody in their right mind would stay with that
display mode then spend hours trying to learn.

Yeah. After the fact.

As I said, I've got a 21" monitor. This beast is going to 1600*1024 at 100Hz
very shortly. I just haven't got around to doing it yet.

It's a 1.5Mbps pipe. Those servers are in the US. I am not in the US. The
local Australian planetmirror pings much better, but it is throttled down.
Your point is moot.

It's not the ISP, you fuckwit.

That one was 100% equivalent to a Windows BSOD.

And what are the specs of your superior machine?

Download Knoppix, the Debian based CDROM GNU/Linux ISO, that you burn to
a CDrom. Verify the MD5SUM! Burn CDrom.

Insert CD into computer CDtray, boot machine with CDrom as first boot
device. See the first screen, and F2: prompt at the bottom? If you
don't hit any key then in 7 seconds it will boot the system.

It auto loads all processors, all drivers, and, then goes to the X11
screen, while the desktop manager pops up...
After 45 Seconds, (TOTAL), you are surfing the web if on any broadband
connection on a network, and playing some of 900 games, apps...

Boots and runs from the CDrom, runs in a RAMdisk!

Can be loaded on a hard drive (about 20 minutes for an install of
Debian) or, you can make the configuration files (30kb, total, with all
desktop items, make that 50 kb!) saved to either the hard drive or a
floppy, so your OTHER Linux OS will load quickly, with ALL the correct
hardware device drivers!

Get Knoppix, freeduc, IPCOP, RHEL, SUSE, KnoppixSTD, and 250 more free
Open Source OSes off the Limewire, or at http://distrowatch.com!

Step One: Get a real newsreader.

Once you've done that, come on back and maybe somebody will be able to
help. Unless you do that, though, there is nothing anyone can do for
you that will last, as Bailo, like K-Kiddie, is a nym-shifter.

Do you imply that the way to become a linuxfuck is just as same as

You should do it first. If the resolution is very high you may save
lots of cpu resource wasted by AA fonts.

1.5Mbps is the speed of the cable, not the speed that your crap ISP
guarantees.

It's all about the ISP.

Not if you know how to setup it manually (you stupid newbie :D).
Rebooting is still suggested though, to check if it can really work.

Lol! You forgot my linux machine has been broken more months :D

It was AMD K6-400, 192MB RAM, SiS-530 video chip.

The accuracy of system clock is 1ms in alpha, still too crap though.
Some drivers need the accuracy of us or ns I think.

Bush is the only candidate who's policy staff has made a pro-GNU/pro-OSS
statement.

Therefore, I vote Bush. I also like his policies on fuel cells and
other technologies. Plus he kicks major butt worldwide. I just
ordered a Bush hooded sweatshirt, XXL, from the /W/ store. Check it out:

*yawn*

I should not have to set it up manually and that is the end of that. Linux
did the equivalent of a BSOD, so shove that up your arse and chew it.

That would be a good door stop or boat anchor, as would you.

Server 2003 is free here. And RAID could be emulated by software, I
had it in my linux box.

It's "steal" only if the judge says that in the court. Luckily my
country doesn't enforce the bullshit copyright law which violates the
basic human rights (and since we don't have real software companies...

There is no problem. If you're smart you would know where to find fast
servers.. but you're still a dumb newbie :D

A bad ping only means that the server takes longer to response. It's
not a problem for single-direction connection.

I remember Australians are either the descendants of criminals or

English does not have male and female word forms, you chink cunt. In
English, words used to refer to either men or women are masculine. Learn
English.

Terminals are verboten. We're talking complete n00b, remember?
Ideally he'd pull down a menu or click on an icon.

On Windows the info is readily available in his System control applet

'Cat'? What, we're talking Schroedinger's Cat here? Why is
a hardcore physics concept part of an OS? :-)

(Perhaps a "newbie-shell" is in order, looking just like DOS? Hmmm...)

>

Actually, it's all in the mind of the kernel. /proc/cpuinfo
is generated somewhere therein. It's not really a file as such.

A bit like /dev/ttyS0 not being a file, but an interface to
the COM1 serial device, except that there's no device in this case.

You're not *done* yet. You've not done the following:

[1] correctly installed the nvidia driver identified in step 4.
[2] correctly installed sound.
[3] correctly installed Raid1 or Raid5 hardware.
[4] correctly installed NAT identified in step 6.
[5] correctly installed Gnome.
[6] correctly installed anonymous Email agent.
[7] correctly installed WinE for Windows executables.
