Ok, I just made a search on google groups to find an answer for this
very annonying problem. There's at LEAST 100 peoples, with different
systems configurations, who asked for the EXACT SAME PROBLEM on Windows
XP but THERE'S NO REAL ANSWER yet. This problem happens with both, DIAL
UP and DSL connections.

Problem description: You boot your computer. You connect on the internet
and everything goes fine. After a while, for whatever reason you get
disconnected so you reconnect...everything looks normal BUT you CAN'T
get any activity online! No data. You have to reboot your computer to
get the thing to works.

This is NOT an ISP or driver problem.

I am not sure but I think Zone Alarm maybe responsible for this. (I have
the latest version).

Someone can help US?

Unfortunately, you are right. Zone Alarm is bug ridden for XP and
destructive. It wasted my Norton Antivirus's ability to autodownload
virus defs and I cannot host anymore with my PCanywhere 10.5.

The plight of the nasty Zone Alarm troubles is well documented on
Symantec's web page and other people's posts here.

Ben,
I am having the same exact problem, and I am also running ZA Pro. But I have
had the same problems with ZA turned off. My ISP is AT&T. The only thing I
haven't tried to do is connect to another ISP before rebooting......

In article <AEQ%7.4$dM6....@newsfeed.slurp.net>, benme...@hotmail.com
says...

Are you by any chance using Agent?

I have the same problem but I am not using Zone Alarm - just the xp
firewall. My ISP says it is a problem with xp. However, my disconnects
started about 7 days ago. Prior to that my DSL connection with xp
worked great for almost 2 months. I have a DHCP account and believe my
ISP (SW Bell) has recently changed the way their DHCP server works.
Until SW Bell gets this corrected I do the following rather than
reboot:

Click on Start
Click on 'Connect to' and select 'show all connections'
Right click on my DSL connection under "LAN or High Speed Internet"
Right click on 'Status' and select the 'support tab'.
Then click on 'Repair'

It's a pain, but faster than rebooting and it works for my connection.

this is one problem I think might be XPs [most problems I hear about are
not] I have a cable modem and do not use zone alarm and had this problem
with different computers using different configurations.

Yeah really, what is UP with swbell recently? My swbell ADSL account is
dying at least 5 times a day now. "Repairing" seems to help mine too.

Can you post some more detailed information about what swbell said exactly,
regarding it being a "problem with XP"?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I think I have found something...

Open the Zone Alarm panel ---> Security ---> set "Medium" for both,
"local" and "internet".

It worked for me! (so far...)
