My office just bought Black Ice Firewall to protect things.

The boss wanted me to install it on my machine at home since I access the office
from time to time when someone gets into trouble.

I get messages telling me using this program will make your computer unstable.

I have the message pop up every 30 seconds, so I had to uninstall it.

Any Ideas?

Yeah,
Black ice is one of the vendors on the official XP list of problem vendors.
They have an issue that screws with XP. I read it last night, but cant find
the URL or specifics on why it wont work. I am using Zone Alarm with no
problems, and its free ware, also outperforms Black Ice in protection. You
can get it at C-Net, just do a search.

The built-in XP Firewall is very similar to Blackice, if not slightly
better. Your boss should be happy with that.

Blackice is way more secure than Zonealarm. Install just about any proxy or
mail-server to see what I mean.
Zonealarm has several known exploits, whereas BID has one, which is off by
default.

The problem with Zone alarm is I have had several people hack through it in
the last few weeks, that is why I bought Black Ice for my office.

Thanks for the insight.

I am sick of having people tell me about how wonderful ZoneAlarm is...
If it was so wonderful, why do I have people breaking into my office
computer??

Black Ice on my MS 98 & ME machines is keeping the riff raff out.
I also just bought a router which will slam the door on them.

My experience is that the REVERSE is true, what information do you have
to show that Zone Alarm is *NOT* secure?

OH? What exploits are you talking about? Point me to
a site with more info please!

I'm using Black Ice and ConSeal Firewall in conjunction. What ConSeal
misses....Black Ice slaps like a red headed step child.
