Okay, so as far as I know I haven't installed anyhting new...the only change
seems to be disabling the stupid worthless XP firewall.

You need to run a check for virus's, Trojans, adware, crap which phones home
etc.
Yes before you mouth the words "but the xp firewall only stops incoming
traffic"
SO, what does that tell you?
Without your firewall in place something is running and causing a failure
which doesn't happen when the firewall is in place.
Why don't you try installing ZAP or another firewall which will do a proper
job.
Set that up and then disable the XP firewall and tell us what the results
are. The chance is that ZAP would be able to tell you which programs are
trying to phone home.

This error message is caused by a driver not cleaning up completely after an
