In device manager, then IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

Secondary IDE Channel

what is the transfer mode set at, DMA or PIO only

Both my device 0 and 1 in the promary are set on DMA

but the device 0 of secondary is PIO only.

Is this correct?

My set up of the buses is

HD 5 Gb on Primary 0
HD 20Gb on Primary 1

Matshita 32x CDROM on Secondary 0
HP CDRW 7200i on Secondary 1

Thanx in Advance

Jaime

If it reverts to PIO after you try to change it to DMA, it's because at least one of your drives doesn't have DMA capability.

The same here. This controls my CD-ROM drive here, while the other
controls my two HDDs.

Not always true. It could be a multi-word DMA device (PIO4). I have
to set my Teac CDW58e 8x8x32 CDRW to none in my BIOS (Asus P3B-f) or
windows sets it to "PIO mode only". Set to none windows XP still see
it and it comes up as "Multi-Word DMA Mode 2", and I can burn
on-the-fly.

Luckily my Afreey 52x CDROM is a UDMA drive so I can use it to boot
CD's and windows doesn't have any problems setting it up correctly.
