Wine isn't an emulator, it's an API library and a script that allows
programs to access that library. Programs using the wine library are not
emulated, but are running natively inside of Linux.
There is no "raw platform" when we talk about windows or linux
There are only calls into the APIs. Which may be faster one side or the
other. For example, most disk-I/O calls would probably be faster on linux.
Network decidedly *is* faster on linux. Video /may/ be faster or slower,
depending on the nature of the driver and the I/O.
So yes, it is possible for certain apps to run faster under Wine than under
windows.
And no, Wine is not an emulator

I hear if you play the Windows XP CD backward you'll hear satanic
messages. But even scarier, if you play it forward it installs
Windows XP!!
yeah right, in your limited mind, linux is better for games ... quit
smoking pot and face the facts ... windows is the top gaming platform
todate ... linux is 20 or 30 yeas behind windows xp on everything,
you're so stupid you cannot understand why everybody prefers windows
xp, you're such an idiot ... if linux was any good, then dell, ibm,
compaq/hp, gateway and others would sell it pre-installed on all their
computers ... however they won't, they all recommend windows xp,
literally ... and don't give me that old bullshit that a company the
size of ibm or hp will take orders from microsoft to only install
windows on their computers ... ibm would wipe its big blue ass with
such a request from microsoft ... these companies install windows xp
because it is simply the best operating system out there and because
nobody would buy these machines with the idiotic and backwards linux
os preintalled, and because linux is so unintuitive, buggy and
problematic, it would simply be a tech support nightmare ... forget
linux, use windows.

Hey with such stunning advocates like you, I can see why Windows is
losing market share.
1. Linux is better for games, look at the top 5 games that offer
server/client capability (UT etc) and see how many run their servers on
linux. With proper drivers, graphics cards normally operate with less
overhead under OpenGL than with DirectX.
2. Linux is more like 10 years AHEAD of Windows XP in a lot of respects,
only 2 or 3 behind in ease of use. You cant put powerhouses like Novell
and IBM and HP behind a product, and not have it polished up faster.
Many hands make easy work.
3. 'Everybody' does not prefer Windows XP, if that was true, MS would
have 100% market share, and wouldn't need to resort to FUD tactics.
4. No company can afford to offer 'all' their computers with Linux, and
MS makes it as difficult as possible to even offer the option of dual
booting. They have to target existing the existing customer base, while
migrating to a new OS. IBM may just start tossing a SuSE LiveCD in with
each desktop, to give people the choice.
5. They all 'recommend' Windows XP because it has the majority of 3rd
party applications that consumers will use, and because drivers are
available for more peripherals (on x86) although drivers are touch and
go with Windoze to begin with.
6. IBM will be wiping its boots off on Microsoft's rear end soon enough,
no need to hurry.
7. 'idiotic and backwards' describes you quite well, seeing as most of
your assertions are idiotic, and would sound better backward, with
Windows/Linux reversed.
8. Tech support nightmare? you mean because of viruses, and worms, spam
and browser hijacking? Installing multiple patches that break existing
applications and settings? Having to reset your network parameters
because they are put to default by some network 'patches' ?
In case you hadn't realized, Windows *IS* the Tech Support Nightmare.
Once you get a linux box running, its a rock, and in the event of a
crash, it is a lot more informative WHY it crashed, and is normally not
that hard to 1. fix or 2. work around until a fix is available, not to
mention that SECURE remote administration is available, an ISP could fix
their customers problem remotely if the customer wants. (For ISP's that
rent/lease out their equipment, this may be more feasible, since its
still their computer)
And you dont have to wait for 1 vendor, OSS ensures that someone out
there probably has the same problem, and is working on a solution, or
asked someone they know who codes to work on one. Everyone benefits from
everyone elses work.

As someone who a few days ago threw a copy of Halo and Vice City in the
garbage, I totally disagree.
Free OSS games are far superior multigaming than any Windos game,
especially expensive, glitzy, resource hogs that are mere window dressing
for what amounts to a game of *zork* or *adventure*.
I have just ordered Unreal Tournament for Linux. I have also been
playing bzflag extensively. Fast, 3-D multiplayer team gaming as in
bzflag does not exist on Windows. Try and play some of the crappy
psuedo-multiplayer games on the /Zone/ -- then get a real OS and load up a
3D accelerated ATI card ( like me ) and play bzflag. A game where I can
run my own server or connect to thousands of variations worldwide.

UT isn't OSS.
Guffaw!! We know that the little kiddies just love all their special games.
I even hear that M$ has a game out just for you... find uncle balmer.

They all 'recommend' Windows XP because they get extra discounts from
Microsoft for doing so, no other reason.

And since your such a Linux fan what are you doing in an XP group?
Chances are the people that are here are NOT going to Linux anyway. I
wouldn't. ANd I've been using computers since the Tandy 1000EX was
the biggest and baddest with it's ultra modern Deskmate. Oh those
were the days.
Guffaw? There's a word haven't heard in ages :-)

It says "comp.os.linux.advocacy" at the top of the Newsgroups list.
Please take up your problem of the crossposted newsgroups with the
trolling OP, "cola_moderator".

Most people /here/ are using Linux, or some other version of Unix.

Fine by me...

My first machine was the ZX81 plus 16k rampack. I built it into a rack,
added a "proper" keyboard, and had endless hours of fun with it. I
learned a lot of Z80 machine code, and could rattle the stuff off as
fast as I could type. I've still got it, festering in the garage
somewhere.

Uhh, Wrong, OpenGL is far faster than DirectX, plus it has the advantage
of working on a wide selection of platforms, not just Windoze
You'd be a fuckwit, eh. A quick trip to Go ogle will tell you that your a
fucking numbskulled cunt who doesn't know what the fuck he's gibbering on
about.
True for supported vide cards. But mine is NOT!

but windoze is the only game platform.
