Just recently built a computer with a few spare parts lying around. Its a
PII 533Mhz celeron and i tried to install XP onto it. Works for the DOS part
with no problems, but when it goes to the first step of detecting/installing
hardware (just after the welcome screen has popped up in the second half of
the setup stage) it gets stuck there constantly. I won't have a choice but
to restart the computer and continue where i left off in the installation.
When the setup resumes, its only a matter of time before it gets stuck and
the whole process will repeat itself.
Just wondering how to fix the problem? I have no clues where to start.
Thanks

Try installing Win98, then put in the XP CD and do a hardware compatibility
check and see what XP doesn't like about your hardware.

The problem arises when i load a win98 bootdisk up and goto the directory
that has the winxp raw. i cant start the installation in DOS mode, but how
do i get the h/d to install like a cd?
TIA

What you are doing is all messed
Go to the BIOS and set the computer to boot from the CD.
If your motherboard can't boot from CDs, download the boot floppies for XP
at the microsoft site. I think there are four or six. It was four for
Win2000.
